Future Discounts on iTunes Cards - Do We Think There Will Be Any?

With iTunes cards, it was generally possible to wait and pick them up at a 15% (20% if lucky) discount at Coles, Woolies, Officeworks etc.

However, Apple has not stopped offering iTunes cards and is now only selling new Apple gift cards that can be used in iTunes store and also in the Apple Store (on phones, iPads etc).

Given that Apple seems to be pretty protective of pricing on its devices, do we think the days of discounts on these gift cards (that can be used in iTunes) have gone?

We are already seeing a small discount on these new gift cards
Apple Gift Card 4% Cashback @ ShopBack App

I suspect we won't be seeing the 15% off anymore but maybe a 10% off could happen. I am basing this purely on the amount of 10% off Apple Mac sales we have been seeing from JB/GG.

    • There's also the possibility of some retailers "eating the loss' and trying to replicate the older 15% off promotions even though they lose stacks of money. Will only happen a couple of times though I imagine.

  • Do you have a link to info on new combined cards?

In The US when they switched over to the universal cards discounting stopped, has not been a discounted apple/itunes card since

  • Apple used to have promos where you’d get bonus credit for loading up your account. Maybe that’ll be the new way to get discounted iTunes Store credit in the future?

  • one of the Key causes of INFLATION is INFLATIONARY EXPECTATIONs.

  • I remember the days of 50% off iTunes cards.

    • I do remember those but there were strict conditions - like one $20 per person. More of a loss leader than a real sale

      • I got $100 gift cards during the 50% off sales I'm remembering.

  • Won't be back - I presume Apple could discount them because of their 30% margin on payments to devs.

Now that 30% is under pressure, Apple will no margin to offer.
