    few words good

    • Would the Golden Wheel Thai Hom Mali rice be a better option? It was half price at $24 per 10kg at Woolworths last week (offer gone now).

    • +2

Exactly. Why use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.

  • +2

good for another 4 weeks lockdown

  • +1

Might as well carb up since there is nothing better to do in a lockdown

  • +4

    Very Rice.

  • Namnese, TOP!!

  • Is this a decent brand or are there better brands?

I live near Asian shops that sell big white sacks, probably cheaper? Would they be better?

    • +3

Thai jasmine rice brands are better, but more expensive.

    • +2

Take this with a grain of rice, but Lion brand and Rose brand are our go to brand when it comes to rice. They're a tad more expensive but more fragrant imo.

Not fragrant enough to be super noticeable, but fragrant enough that, if you eat rice everyday, you'd appreciate the difference.

Rose brand is the ducks guts. It's not that cheap compared to supermarket specials, but tastes so much better.

        • +1

          ducks guts?!

            @juki: The Bees Knees

            @juki: The cat's pyjamas.

            Also, often called duck's nuts.

    • I would stick to rice rather than big white sacks, but to each their own.

Rice are the biggest money maker in restaurants. They charge $2 for 1 bowl or container which is barely 100g

    • +2

      I should start a rice restaurant…

    • +1

And it is not like they can claim it is labour intensive. I mean throw rice in rice cooker and flick a switch.

      • +1

I mean throw leftover rice in rice cooker and flick a switch.

        FTFY :P

    • +1

you have to see it this way, if they make the rice being too cheap, customers will end up filling their tummy and not order anymore dishes…

      • i will drink the tea and water til im ful then ..

    • +1

      Coke is 99 percent water

  • Does any one know how does this brand compare with Royal Umbrella?

    • +1

RU is better but cost like 3x more.

      • +1

I think I've seen 5 kg bags of RU for $15 in Melbourne, no specials. RU is goooood.

    • Thats brand we using for aged. Very nice

  • Thanks guys!

This was on spesh a couple of weeks ago, first time trying it and it has a bit of a weird aftertaste?

  • Dislike how the brand presents itself as Thai rice when it is Vietnamese. Feels like a scam. Better call the brand Uncle Ho and put his portrait on the sack, would be honest and sell better. This is not royal rice, it is communist. Therefore the red sack can stay, just put a new sticker across the "royal" branding.

so thai rice is generally much better than viet rice?

i've always bought thai rice but thats cause my parents do.

    • Yes, I'd even go as far to say that the best rice is Thai rice.

Of course, it boils down to personal preference and budget. Thai rice is typically more expensive than other South East Asian rices.

      • we like thai/cambodia rice too but now even the sunrice is from vietnam wtf

  • I bought this and can confirm Thai jasmine rice (Royal Umbrella/Rose brand/Lion brand) is much better quality.
