A good price for one the newer generation of webcams (even allowing for the risks of a razer product).

Be warned the first generation firmware has a bad autofocus breathing problem, and there is a crapshoot on which cameras have upgradeable firmware. At this price, I can live with fixed focus for a while, so I've grabbed one - the HDR is the killer feature for me even with the drop to 30FPS (and the worst case I'll be flogging it for not much less than I've paid for it).

  • Great price! $50 cheaper than the next retailer.

Does anyone know how this compares to the Streamcam and Brio?
(I know there's YouTube reviews but it'd be good to get other people's real-life opinions)

  • Check the Amazon.com reviews. Mostly pretty positive aside from the autofocus/firmware thing.

  • +1

Pretty costly given it does not even have features like Windows Hello. I would go with the Logitech Brio instead at this premium webcam level, especially because it also does 4K as well. But ultimately it depends on what features you are looking for.

    • Fair enough. The Kiyo is a better camera for my use case, and I've not seen the Brio anywhere near this price (Streamcam was around this a couple of weeks ago from JB). Also, this is closer to the regular price of the 922 - and this blows it out of the water.

      • Yeah that is fair, at this discounted price it is pretty good value. Cheapest I have seen the Brio for is around $200-$250 when it is on special (normally around $250-$300).

Why would you want 4K in a web cam?

        Ultra HD OnlyFans ?

      • Your face\body replace software picks up your actions much more accurately.

If you want things like tongue and eyes to motion track onto your avatar, it needs to see them clearly.

  • Would this work with Android TV?

  • Lots of issues with these on the Amazon reviews. Seems like this camera may not be suitable for work computers (where you can’t install Synapse).

Fair enough but people who buy Razer are pro-gamers on $1,000,000+ salaries. They use their own hardware. No exceptions.

I use mine for work-meetings, colleagues say I now stand out compared to the other crappy cams my workmates have….

  • Got one. Thanks.
    Great price.

  • Got one after trying to chase down a facecam, thanks

  • thanks for the post!

I ordered mine and cancelled it. As OP has mentioned, there are issues. I also checked on Reddit and Youtube, and found the following… quite recent as well so I won't risk it. The latest firmware update on the Razer website (matching the model number) is from May 19, 2021. But one Youtube comment stated a month ago that he/she ordered one from Amazon and also had issues updating. Hence, do it at your own risk when updating.

      • Thanks for the links so looks like if u end up with older stock, youre screwed!!

        • seems so, Amazon pop up a couple of times from people who has bricked their Kiyo. Hence, this is only a good deal for people not looking to update their firmware at the moment.

          • @RobBoss: Well, it's a small number of people complaining, and lots of positive reviews on Amazon.com, so I'm figuring it hasn't been a problem for most people.

In the worst case, if it is problem and Razer decide they would rather not help an Amazon customer, I'll return it (and go back to my dinosaur cam), and Amazon will deal with Razer at some point in the future.

  • $163!

    • Damn!

  • Price went back to 250+, I got mine at the 170 price point.

  • Damn shipping via UPS is impressive, left Paris last night and due to be delivered this Friday

I've decided to take a punt with the firmware - wont bother updating

For those still following this thread, I got mine today. It came with firmware 1.01 - After a couple of tries at updating the firmware which didn't take, one of the following things sorted it out (unfortunately, I did them all together so I don't know which one matters).

    • Install the camera and get it working on a USB 3.0 port on my desktop, shutdown and restart.
    • Run the firmware updater as Administrator (right click) - I suspect this is what sorted the issue out for me, as previously there was a dialogue that flashed up and disappeared at 50% and it didn't happen this time.

Anyhow, very happy with the price, the quick delivery and fully updated to the 1.0.3_r4 firmware - there is still some infrequent focus seeking, but it seems mostly fine (good enough for my needs at least). I've yet to try the low light stuff.

    • Thanks for the post. Mine just arrived and followed your instructions. All went well, no dramas or freezing during installation.

Like yours mine came with 1.01 installed.

Very happy with purchase. Unit is solid as!

  • Mine arrived today - the firmware update to 1.0.3_r4 installed normally with no issues and the focus is solid on mine.

However, compared to my LG V30+ running Irium Webcam, it doesn't look as nice. A few observations:

The default settings likely to make everything significantly darker than my smartphone
In suboptimal lighting conditions, it performs really well
The low light performance is great and has minimal noise compared to other cameras

There is a LOT of chromatic abberation (colour fringing around the edges of everything) - likely because they used such a wide-angled lens
HDR exhibits artifacting when outside a narrow exposure range

Overall, while I'm keeping it, I'm not completely satisfied with it.

Not especially surprising - phone cameras are streets ahead of webcams. I'm just not willing to trash my phone battery.

Pretty well my use case. Glare from river reflections and hardwood floors during the day, or inadequate lighting at night, one half of my face well lit, one in comparative shadow (sucky environment for a camera, but I'll take the sunlight and view in preference!). The Kiyo is a huge step up from my old Logitech.

I switched to the narrow FoV (which suits my needs) and haven't noticed this issue. Not saying it's not there - just not noticing it.

HDR exhibits artifacting when outside a narrow exposure range

This I'm not surprised by - I'm seeing "sparklies" where the camera can't decide if a highlight needs low or high exposure treatement. But I'm happy it is as good as it is!
