    No one?
I saw it cheaper in 1992 at a garage sale.

    • Thank you. The deal finally feels legit.

  • Confirmed this fit in the $20 off when you spend $60 via Latitude Pay. But no pick up for me, need to pay delivery $8 Syndey, result total $264.25

    • Damn…. Missed that one.
Good catch, that Latitude offer expires tomorrow midnight.

  • How does this compare to the Sony HTS350?

    • Dunno, but the reviews are very good.

There's a lot to like from the Sony.
Although it counts for very little because I haven't heard either, I would imagine for your money you are getting better value out of the Sony in a larger living room with an audience of 4+

I went with this one specifically to get a sound bar without a bass unit. In my apartment I wouldn't be able to make proper use of a subwoofer.

Generally speaking though, (cheap-ish) bigger sound systems struggle to sound good a low volumes.
This Bose is likely better at lower volumes and I imagine the Sony probably comes into its own at about 50% volume or higher.

The Sony will win hands down compared to this as it is without a sub. A dedicated sub, even a cheap one can make a huge difference.

Wow, great site & comparison! Thanks for sharing!

  • I know some people hate Bose but I find their speakers to have good balanced sound for my liking. Good deal when they are on sale.

    • I think small form factor is something they do well so the soundbars should be good

Anyone able to comment on sound clarity at low volumes in a large, open room?

My primary use case: Watching sport at night at lowish volumes so as not to disturb sleeping kids. Keen to improve on clarity of vocal commentary from current TV (Sony X9000H). Cheers.

Rear firing speakers like built in TV speakers spill a lot of sound around the room and we end up losing detail in the bouncing/clashing sound waves. So we end up turning the volume up to hear more clearly.

With sound bars being front facing speakers you will be getting sound more efficiently at lower volumes, so theoretically this will suit your need.
It also sports a dialogue enchacement feature which may be nice for you.

You might also consider getting a more expensive sound bar that has capability to act as a night time listener and as a full blown surround style, Dolby, Atmos etc etc kind of thing.

This will def be a step up from what you have in every scenario and solve the late night sessions but might be lacking when entertaining a large gathering.
If you are upgrading, consider all the scenarios and try get something that suits all those use cases.
This may be it, but some people want bigger and more powerful sound options as well.

        Thanks for the detailed reply!

I personally never blast movies/volume (can bluetooth to quality headphones if necessary) so really only seeking a low volume night-time experience. But I definitely take your point about the front firing vs rear firing spread on the tv speakers.

          Yea same here.
Sounds makes a lot more sense when relating it to light.
It's like shining a torch and pointing it at something vs pointing it up to see everything in the room.
That will translate to a more zonal and directed sound from the sound bar vs a wider and room filling sound from the tv (lesser quality of course).

Which is why some sound bars are now coming with 5.1 and surround sound capability. That's what I was referring to the other expensive upgrades.

I'd consider the Bose soundbar 700 or Sonos Arc for quality (not bass heavy) if price wasn't a concern. Eventually I'll sell and get one of these :)

@smalllittlepanda: Budget is the key thing here. Current tv speakers aren't terrible so trying to justify $275 for ~30% improvement as opposed to $800-1200 for much bigger improvement in sound.

          • @smalllittlepanda: How does this compare to Yamaha YAS-109 Sound bar in terms of sound comparison? I am looking to up my sound quality in the loving room.

            • @NeverMissABargain: The loving room ;)
Depends on what you're listening to and what features are important to you.
Wouldn't be a huge upgrade, some might even say hardly noticeable.
You might be better off saving up a bit and getting something a bit better $800+
