1) Access to content that may be region-locked and therefore not available in Australia (certain websites, USA streaming services etc.)
2) Purchasing content from other countries for much cheaper e.g. Russia or Brazil stores for games or streaming accounts are much cheaper than local due to economy.
3) Illusion of added-security for less-than-legal or grey-area activities.
Make your employer think you've moved to a different country during lockdown. Not sure the benefit but could be amusing if anyone notices.
I'd opt to have some dudes in Europe, heck even shady dudes in Russia or China, keep tabs on me rather than big mummy at home telling me I can't keep my bedroom door closed.

Corporate VPNs allow employees to connect to work from home.
VPNs like PIA/Nord are useful to circumvent censorship in other countries. In Australia, you can use them to avoid the metadata retention policy we have here.
Apparently a lot of people in Australia use them as a DCMA trash bin.
