Sick. Got it on my platinum charge 👍

  • Didn’t get it on my charge card :(

I got the email says $150 credit with $150 spend, but I can't see this offer on the app

On my plat charge here along with the annual $1450 fee..

Anyone had any luck recently having this reduced or waived or points given?

    • +1

give them a call and select "cancel your card" option. I called them last year right before annual fee due to be posted, they didn't agree to reduced or waived fee but gave me a pretty generous retention offer: 200K points. the only condition is I'm not allowed to negotiate for another retention offer this year or cancel my card within 12 months.

      • I’d be worried playing brinksmanship if the agent said “fine” and cancelled immediately without a counter-offer.

        • +4

You can sort of work around that by saying something like, "The annual fee is very high and I'm just considering if it's worth paying it again this year. Is there any way you can reduce it?"
However, with both AmEx and other cards I've generally found it works best if you really do intend to get rid of the card if there's no offer.

          • @SeaWolf au: I'll give it a shot at renewal time. I once tried it with Citibank Platinum, and within 30 seconds of me asking, the op cancelled card; no offer at all.

            • +1

@DSOTM: They have to do that for credit cards if you request to cancel. Charge card is different as its not a credit card.

            • +2

@DSOTM: I mean on the other hand if you really wanted to cancel and they kept trying to sell you stuff, you'd be pretty annoyed right?

              • @clone: Well… Citibank for sure. Hated dealing with them, but AmEx has always been pretty good to me.

                • +1

@DSOTM: I got nothing when I asked and they cancelled it pretty much straight away. But then I told him to reinstate it cos I had a few bills to pay and will finalise the cancellation once it's done.

I also actually cancelled last year during peak covid but some good offers came up so I asked for it to be reinstated. They can always reinstate your card within 30 days and you won't lose any points or history.

  • Great deal. Got it on my Plat Charge.

  • Anyone got it on their companion charge card?

    • +1

From the T&Csquoted above “ Additional Cards are not eligible for this offer.”, if this is your question

  • Thanks, got it on my Charge Card :)

  • got it, great deal essentially free $200 to spend
    thanks

  • got it on plat charge thanks

    Centurion has $400

  • Got it on Platinum Charge.

  • Although not specifically excluded, could anyone buying gift cards let us know if it triggers an Amex redemption notification please?

  • Like some but unlike others here, I didn't get it on my Platinum Charge. I wonder what the algorithm is that determines it. And when we spend so much for the card and we don't get offered it, isn't the FOMO going to counter the loyalty that these offers are meant to generate?

  • +1

Can confirm buying an e-gift card triggers the offer. Received the email instantly.

    • Me too. Thanks.

  • Got it on my main Plat Charge only, not on sub cards.

  • For those buying gift cards .. did you buy it online at David Jones or in store?

    I.E. via this link?

    • +1

I successfully bought online with the $200 rebate. I am pretty sure that I did it by the normal DJ's online link!

  • Bought a $100 eGift card from DJ website yesterday but yet to receive Amex email confirming the rebate…

      $200 Back with $200 Spend

You aren't going to get $100 back for $100 spend.

      • Doh OK it's not "up to" as it was for Wollies, makes sense then!
