They've had chip shortages recently, so amazed that these are on special!

Cheap smartlights aren't always better.
So you reckon other cheaper smart lights from other companies are not good? I respectfully disagree as I have been using smart lights from other companies which are quite good and much cheaper compared to LIFX.

Can't help being sceptical about their germ-killing claims.

And specific from lifx tests of 40cm distance. "While the Lifx Clean can kill over 80 percent of E. coli bacteria on a glass surface in two hours under the right conditions, you’d have to run Lifx’s Clean bulb for up to eight hours to achieve a similar kill rate for MRSA."
Seems like a gimmick to me. And no evidence for viruses. When was the last time you got sick from E coli or MRSA on your desk?

Good grief, if you've got enough E. coli on your surfaces that you think buying a "cleaning" smart bulb is the answer, then you've got bigger problems.
Where to use
Close range: Everyday objects like your phone & keys, tv remote, or even toothbrush and sponges can gather lots of bacteria. Place them underneath a lamp with LIFX Clean to > disinfect the surfaces of your most used items.
Mid-range: Use the bulbs as part of the light fixture in your bathroom or in a pendant lamp above your kitchen counter to help prevent bacterial build up on key surfaces.
* This bulb can help eliminate up to 90% of S. Aureus and E. Coli on surfaces depending on the distance and time.

Right, so at best case, removes up to 90% of those two bacteria, depending on distance and time. So, let's assume 90% kill rate at 30cm (e.g. table lamp or "close range"). Kill rate at those "mid-range" scenarios at 1.8m distance (2.4m ceiling, 60cm bench = 1.8m distance from the lamp to teh bakteryaz) will therefore be proportional to light intensity all else being equal. Light intensity varies with the square of distance.
Light intensity at "mid-range" is therefore 1/d^2;
= 1/(1.8/0.3)^2
=1/6^2
=1/36
Kill rate at midrange is up to 0.9x0.36 = 0.324 or 32% in the best possible scenario that the marketers can find!

Eliminate? Err, no. Give them a limp flogging with a wet lettuce as shown above.
Why bother? In the kitchen, save yourself $62 (or back to full price at $89 now) and wipe your kitchen bench after cutting up chicken, wash your utensils immediately in hot soapy water, and wash your hands afterwards (oh, and please don't use antibacterial products while you're at it). Cook food well and avoid unsafe food practices.
E. coli is mostly spread by human ingestion of infected animal or human faecal matter. Stop buying pointless products and try to reduce the amount of shite that you seem to think is coating your phone, keys, tv remote, or toothbrush (uggh).

Quite costly even after the discount. Wish their prices were a bit normal but hey we live in Australia so we pay a premium for many things along with earning premium wages. Nowadays there are so many cheaper smart lights options.
