Right or Top Hinged microwaves?

Hello there. Last year we moved into a home which I absolutely love except for one thing that is driving me nuts. The microwave nook is in the corner, which means opening a regular microwave with its hinges on the left side is very awkward/potentially unsafe to use.

Has anyone seen or can recommend a microwave that opens from either hinges on the right or the top? I am quite short so hinges on the bottom, while probably better than what we have would still be somewhat awkward.

Budget is pretty reasonable because… well it's driving me mad and I'm willing to pay a little more. Prefer under $900

Trying to steer clear from a built in microwave due to expenses associated with installation (Not very handy person for DIY jobs)

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Sorry, $900 budget for a microwave? Do you mean a microwave or one of those mini-ovens?

    • Microwave. That's the most I want to spend, but would obviously like something cheaper.

    • And yes seen that one, and it's on the list but opens from top to bottom. Prefer either right hinge or top hinge.

      I don’t know what I expected but it wasn’t that… but I’m not mad about watching it…

OMG, we’re in a similar position. Our microwave nook is tucked to the right, so normal microwave doors are a bit frustrating!

Sadly I’ve not found a microwave that has the hinges on the right… let us know what you end up doing

    I hear you OP.

When I moved into an apartment an online search of old advertising and sales material claimed the apartments were designed by a “famous” architect.

Not sure if it was the developer or architect that decided to place a microwave against the right hand wall and in a nook that prevents the door from opening more than 90° but it is an absolutely idiotic location.

while I understand your request and the fact that the premises has a "nook" for a microwave. What's wrong or stopping you from just moving the unit to a part of a benchtop like most ppl without a nook do? or fix a bench type shelf to wall etc? seems far simpler than spending lots of cash

moving the unit to a part of a benchtop

Because benchtop space is always at a premium

    • We're not exactly overflowing with free benchtop space as it is.

      • if you have space for a freestanding dbl cupboard get one use top shelf as nook?

Flip the microwave upside down. Solved.

Heavy duty drawer slide with a small turntable/"lazy susan"?

  • Has anyone found a right hinged microwave yet? I would also like one.

  • Finally found one. https://www.gaggenau.com.au/products-list/ovens/200-series/m…
RH Hinge and bottom controls. My husband is a leftie but I have to confess that I only researched this becuase he asked me to, I'd never thought of the inconvenience,
