Optus → Live Connected. When to purchase SIM?

Ok well my old 3GS contract ends in one month and being a savvy buyer I've resisted buying into another contract and decided to go on LC. It has taken A LOT of will power not to go get the latest phone!

Anywho im just not sure when is the best time to buy the LC sim as I want to port my number and they ask you that when you checkout your cart. Obviously if it do that now id be ending my contract early but I want the shortest period of time between services so I thought buying it early would work and activating it later but that doesn't seem to be an option :(

Any experiences with this would be helpful, but im guessing ill just have to wait till my current contract ends and have no service for a day or so.

I was going to email them but they have a 4 day turn around and so I thought someone on OzB would answer quicker.

    their billing period is 28th of every month. so order next week? activate on 29?:P

      My billing period is the 1st of every month or something like that, definitely wasn't the 29th

    My Optus contract finishes 19th March and am wanting to do the same.

    Alternative is to just get a $2 sim from Woolies or something like that port out to them on day your contract expires, then re-port out to LC after that. this way while you wouldnt be able to ring out, you would still have call in capability.

    Just depends on how dependent you are on your phone, and how tight you are (Ozbargainer - we know)

    My Optus contract finished over 12 months ago, and still been paying $29 for rubbish value. Will be moving to LC very soon, and when the galaxy s3 comes out will buy it outright and stick it on LC as well - unless they have some reasonable plans incorporating repayments.
