Looking at buying a car seat for a 4 year old but I’m confused and there seems to be different types. Some are boosters which use the car seat belt and others are from 1-8 years old and they seem to use a harness.
What should I be buying?

Thanks! No ISO fix but!
Australia doesn’t allow ISO fix to be used for kids 4+
I thought it was allowed for 0-4, as in 4 was inclusive?
@brendanm: So OP can use the ISOFIX on the kids birthday at least…?
Personally I don't get the appeal for ISOFIX. Yes, it's easier to install. But seatbelt install isn't that much harder…?
@Chandler: Not sure if serious? They would be usable until the child turns 5, or, more correctly, their shoulders are at/above the shoulder height limit on the seat.
Isofix is easier and more secure, also very difficult to fit incorrectly.

I was serious, just incorrect. Yes, seat usable until shoulders hit the marker.
Having said that, a lot of "0-4" seats are designed/marketed for extended rear facing, which you can't do once the child hits 4: must forward face, whether they still fit in the seat or not.
Correct. Isofix is only available on 0-4 seats in Australia.
Maxi Guard or Maxi Guard Pro. Harnessed for longer, great seats. Or a baby love EZY-grow, a cheaper option.
