NAS - 4+ Bays

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately i missed out on the NAS deal from onlinecomputer.com.au last week. Ive been looking for a similar deal ever since. Chasing a decent NAS to store all my media etc.. Ideally it would be 4 bays minimum im not too fussed about getting the hard disks with it at the moment, anyone found any bargains ?

  • HT still has this for $248, not a bad one though.

Or if you want a bit more power and flexibility, you can still get the HP microserver from Megabuy.

    Cheers,

  • Simply awesome, much better CPU and RAM than a specialised NAS …

    • no raid 5 which is no good for what im after.

      • Did you type that requirement in Lemon Juice? :p

But seriously, list all your requirements to help people help you.

  • im also looking for 4bays, mainly for downloading torrent/http during the day and at night it should stream movies to my tv/ipad. raid 5 is a must. will it be hard to setup hp n40l microserver to be like qnap/synology?
also i heard n40l capable to run raid5?

    • The n40l is in fact a complete computer. You have to install the OS yourself, e.g. XP, win7 ..etc. It's not like qnap/synology which you can configure them via the web interface.

I dont see a need of raid5 for your stated purposes. I am using one n36l as what you have said. And I am just running XP on it 24/7. It may require restart once a month, but apart from that I have no other issues. Why you would need to waste the overhead for raid 5?

Of course you can run raid 5 with the n40l provided that you got the proper raid card installed. Go to overclocker AU for more details. There is a forum dedicated for the microserver there and it has a lot of useful information.
