Edifier Airpulse A100 Active Speakers $699 (RRP $999) + Delivery ($0 Metro Delivery/ VIC C&C) @ Centre Com

130

Seems like a rather nice bit of kit for the price. Uses premium driver tech normally seen in more expensive gear (horn loaded ribbon tweeter, underhung coil midbass). Self powered with a good selection of inputs, adjustable eq, Bluetooth and sub out.

Reviews and measurments also seem positive.

Could be a good option for nearfield or small room listening. Larger models also on sale although stock seems limited.

  • AHH! HORN LOADED RIBBONS! /earplugs
But that's entirely personal opinion :p

For anyone who's not as treble sensitive as I am, these are very well featured, nice find!

    • Yeah that's sometimes the case, but from the measurements I've seen here and here the treble and overall fr actually looks pretty flat (one of them almost suspiciously so).

It might seem subjectively a little emphasised, as a slight downwards slope is usually preferred, but I don't think it'd be super hot. And ofc there's the option to eq — although I know some seem to find that word offensive :p

  • Would be cool if Edifier came out with some decent powered subs to go with their higher end speakers

For the consumer; no need when REL exists.
What amazing devices, with actual decently tuned high-level input, if your solution doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer channel.

    • You can pair powered subs with these but it's not a very elegant solution.

      • +2

Nah these have a proper sub out, was just hoping for something that matches since I've liked all the other Edifier gear I've tried

        • Oh okay didn't know that, hopefully they have something in the works because their gear is pretty solid for the money.

  • Interesting that all of Edifier's other models seem to have gone to RRP at all retailers. For example, the S3000 Pro and S2000MKIII. Quite overpriced at RRP.

    • I noticed the same on Amazon (sold by Amazon, shipped by Amazon) Price went up from $629 to $1099. I have to think they are place holder prices, and this has happened due to no available stock

  • How are these compared to s3000pro?

    • +1

These are probably a bit less agile in the bass aspect since these have 5" woofers and the s3000pros have 6.5". I own the 3000pros and they have been excellent and are very well rounded once you dial in your desired settings. I haven't listened to the a100's but they are rated at 100w output compared to the 3000 pros 256w, so if you need to fill a bigger space the 3000 pros might be your best bet.

      • +1

Thanks, I thought I am missing something as the s3000pro was about this price earlier!

      • I have s3000pro

Can you give me your settings?
I dont' think much of the sound, but hopefully with your settings will be better

I was trying songs to test quality of speakers, and RadoHead's The National Anthem is recommended to test overall balance. It is said to sound amazing on good speakers and a mess on bad speakers, the song sounds like a mess of noise to me

        • +1

I set the the audio pre-set to Dynamic and set the treble dial about +2 and usually have the bass set to around -2. I don't do any eq beyond that. Potentially setting it to Monitor mode could help as well. That song is probably ideal on multi-speaker arrangements like some floor standing speakers that have multiple high, mid and low drivers. I also wouldn't base my opinion off one song, just listen to what you enjoy :).

If you like ribbon tweeters, perhaps Emotiva’s Airmotiv B1+ may interest you. I just ordered one (they normally sell out) and still works out cheaper than this pair of Edifiers.

These are passive speakers so you will need an amp. I have a Fosi Audio BT20a which goes for ~$80-100 on Amazon (less on discount).

  • I'm so happy with my edifier r2750db's, got them on sale for like $175. I feel like they would have better bass and a similar range to these speakers as they are a bigger 6.5 unit. Playing 320mp3 or better quality and the sound volume they put out for a 2.0 is amazing. One of the best buys for Edifier must be these and the 1700s of course. I'm glad i took the plunge and did not wait for the s1000-2000s to go on special as i probably wouldn't be able to tell any difference tbh.
