Warranty on Recall Parts? - Subaru Secondary Air Pump

Can't find any info online on warranty for recalled parts, hoping someone has some experience here - here is the history:

December 2019 - took car to subaru for airbag recall. They completed a few other recall parts, one being secondary air pump which dates back to a 2016 recall the previous owner didnt get. I don't take too much notice of this, just happy my car air bags were fixed and safe.

Roughly Feb 2020 - car engine lights come on and start flashing, still driving fine but in limp mode (reduced power for those who are unsure what this means ie less turbo boost (i think?))
Taken to mechanic, he says its something called a secondary air pump and its roughly $600-700 to fix. He said it does not affect driveability and is not going to cause issues down the track. I'd just pumped over $3k into my car fixing other issues in 2019, since it was not a worry and I dont drive too often I took their advice and left it. This is the same part that Subaru had changed over 2 months prior that I had forgotten about, because the main reason I went was to get the airbags fixed.

Fast foward to July 16 2021, I am looking on some forums about cars and come across the 2016 recall for secondary air pump. Called subaru about this to check if my car had done it as it didnt cross my mind this was already completed in 2019 with the airbags.

Its been 1.5 years since the recall was completed.

I called Subaru and they booked me in to take a look at it (this costs $175 but he reduced to $88 to 'help me out') however because I didnt raise it to them earlier it may not be their issue as its out of warranty? Does a car part really go out of warranty within a year?

Anyone have any experience with car parts, warranties, similar scenarios as the above?

Anyway, not planning on getting it fixed by Subaru if they try to sell it to me as their premium is usually double a local mechanic from experience.

What year is the car and what's your location? I got mine deleted from the system by getting blocked off.

If you're in VIC, start going to Got it Rex and don't waste anymore time/money at Subaru especially if your car is older and no warranty etc.

    • Its an 08 Gt Spec B.

How much do you recall it cost from Got It Rex? I've been there before to get some other things looked at.

Only reason I'm wanting to go to Subaru direct is because its a fault from their recall, that I assumed I wouldnt have to pay for in the end.

I didn't get it done at Got it Rex, it was done privately a long time back for a couple hundred.

I understand you're trying to get Subaru to fix it but if you value your time and money you should seek a permanent fix. The delete is a permanent solution and you won't have to deal with the BS.

Maybe give GIT a call to see able to help and that $88 will at least buy you the block off plates.

In the long run, you should continue getting your car serviced at GIT if you can as you will save a shit ton of money. Subaru services/fixes are always at least double.

  • Warranty on recall parts should e the same as any other part.

    • Do you happen to know the warranty on parts such as this?

      • Seriously, what did Subaru say when you asked?

        Halfway down this page.

        https://www.subaru.com.au/parts

        • He would not comment until they have run the car through diagnostics. He was reluctant to assist due to the timeline of the events, even though I explained the situation.

The link only mentions OPTIONAL genuine parts and accessories, not NON-OPTIONAL which is my scenario.

          • @Mrmijaki: Ring spare parts and ask how much warranty is on that part or something similar. Not a wear item.

  • (this costs $175 but he reduced to $88 to 'help me out')

Nice of him.. he doesnt have to
