Help with Buying a Good Quality Power Extension Lead for Outdoor Use?

Hi Guys

I'm looking to buy a good extension lead for outdoor use, have no idea about these, do they have to be heavy duty? I will be using it mostly for the pressure washer and possibly leaf vac as well. what brands are good, i don't mind spending for a decent brand.

    • thanks!! any brands you would rate higher based on personal experience?

      • depends on how much you want to spend.
I've never had issues with HPM or DETA -standard bunnings stuff.
        Just don't get them wet.

        • up to $60 may be. silly question but cannot run the lead over a wet surface can I? or are there ones you can.

          • @sammyla: For pressure washing? As long as the plug doesn’t end up in a puddle

  • I’ve had a couple over the years. One thing that sets some apart is the flexibility of the lead. Some are too stiff and don’t hang against themselves when looped.

    • Flexibility if important to me as well, I'm sure that makes a difference, which ones do you use and like?

      • Had them so long I can’t remember sorry.

You don't need heavy duty. Just get the $18 25m one (Bunnings) if that's the length you need.

Get one with a safety switch built in as you need one in case you stuff up something.

Had this HPM one for years, no issues with it at all.
Used weekly with the pressure washer but have used it with blower/vac and plenty of power tools. I find it flexible enough to loop up and store away. Good length especially for the outdoor vac but depends how big your yard is and where the power points are.

I'd get a HD one for outdoor use as it will be dragging along the ground if you're using it with a blower/vac. The insulation is thicker and more durable compared to the indoor ones.

    • thanks mate will check it out, got a quite big backyard so i need to make sure i get a lead that's long enough to reach all areas, have 3 external power points at the back of the house house so should be all good. HD sounds good to me.

Got one of these as well. They aren't very rat resistant that's the only downside but the replacement I've bought has held up reasonably well.

In the last year or two, it's lost some of its flexibility and getting a little difficult to straighten it as it constantly curls up.
