Customers VS Daily Deal Sites

Hey Guys,

We have been seeing and hearing alot of negative posts through many forums and in the media when your expectations aren't met once you have purchased a deal from a daily deal site.

What is the real issue, how can the line be drawn into the sand.

Is it the fact that we (daily deal sites) are selling more than a supplier can handle?

Or is the daily deal site just not servicing you when your in need and going the extra step to ensure that what you have paid for meets your expectations?

As we are trying to differentiate our selves from the rest to do the best we can to make it all right as we are a smaller player in the market where its not about the numbers on the board but a smooth, fun and enjoyable process between you, us and the supplier.

we would love your feedback based on the positive and the negatives.

Feel free to let us know how you feel.

  • Depends on the deal, but for services this idea has great limitations, those wanting bargains want to know when they buy the deal they can redeem it at a time that suits them, meanwhile the vendor wants the same. Then there is a mismatch for some/many and the problem starts.

Worse still are the os holiday deals. Pay up front, then try and get a room, but then find you cant get a cheap flight to match, whats available. Or book the flight and then find the days dont match. And you cant find out in advance. And for some can you get leave from your job at the same time which compounds the issues

Coupons that are free dont have this issue as the user isnt out of pocket if they cant agree on a date.

Maybe for bookings that someone has the ablity to get a refund in 5 days should they not be able to get a booking that suits. And that they get thru the coupon site a refund plus bonus if the agreed booking is cancelled by the vendor for any reason, but the latter is open to possible fraud

Personally I think the whole concept is a model that is fraught with issues, its like the on line voting game, sounds great but too many holes that cant be plugged.

Will never use a coupon site again after being burned once, and that wasn't with a service, which makes it worse.

  • Some deal sites are decidedly shonky and will sell far more of the deal than the service provider has authorised - the obvious problems arise.

A recurring issue lately though is service providers offering a deal that they have no intention of honouring - for example, they knew full well they were closing down, so figured they could make a quick buck beforehand. At first it seemed to be mostly 'beauty' services that this affected, but is becoming far more widespread - something that the daily deals sites need to seriously address or they will cease to exist, due totally to a lack of consumer confidence in them.

The other thing is communication - if a customer of the deal site emails you, they expect a response within a reasonable time, ie that day at the very least. If they're contacting you, it's highly likely they're having issues that at that stage have a chance of being resolved favorably for everyone. Make them feel like they're being ignored or brushed off, and you see exactly what you're seeing now - dissatisfied customers who will happily warn others off.
