Got myself lol a fire stick on prime day just noticed all my not checked box hdmi sockets are being used or does this plug into usb?
I need my current set up as is how best can add these fire sticks without sacrificing anything an idea.
Yes i should really check how it plugs into tv, most are on the back and lets say its full and i rather not take tv off wall.
As for side of tv all slots being used there.

Empty an hdmi slot, find an empty slot, or sell the fire stick…

    • It’s that easy? /s

Congratulations. This is easily the most poorly written post I've ever seen on ozbargain. Have a comma for your troubles. , .

  • I think what you want to do is keep everything connected as it currently is, yet connect the firestick as well. As spackbace has mentioned, empty a port.

Another option that may work, is to get yourself an HDMI splitter/switch. You will need to connect 1 or more of your existing HDMI connected devices to the splitter/switch along with the fire stick for example. You can then toggle between the devices connected to the switch/splitter when needed for use, essentially the same as you would now when flicked from your various devices directly connected to the TV ports.

If you have an Amp/receiver with an HDMI switch, you could also use this.

Otherwise, buy a new TV with more HDMI ports is another option if you can part with the coin.

  • I bought a 3 in - 1 out adapter and it can auto change to the port that is in use, i.e. when you turn on a device. It also has a manual button to cycle through the ports when auto change is not possible, i.e when there is already an 'on' signal, you cant go straight back to it.

Works well for what i need.
An old Samsung Plasma that only has one HDMI port. I can get the Vodafone tv box, Panasonic DVB-T/Bluray, and when i need it, the laptop..

  • Is this pidgin?

  • Ok did a some searching and there are two items a switch and splitter which i beleive switch is better suited to my needs.
Im looking at this item did not want to spend this much but then there are ones more expensive and i suppose anything cheaper might be crap.
Im sure this seller sells ok stuff as i got something from him to make my Yamaha soundbar work with my tv.
Least with if i do get any future gadgets then im good to go, the only thing is its powered by usb and my tv is already using it for device i got from same seller to work my soundbar.
Im sure i figure something out but if some other device i have has usb will i be good to use that ie im sure soundbar has usb as well.

Here is what i was thinking of.

    • Given all the adapters etc coming out of your tv, the best bet would be to tell us the tv model, and the devices hooked up to it, to see if we can come up with a cleaner solution. USB for a sound bar seems strange…

      Or sure, buy the switch

      • Yes just a cheap tv from target few years back once it packs in or i feel of an upgrade i go 4k but not upgrading yet.
        My other is 3d tv.

The target tv is hooked up with a Yamaha sound bar what i mean by usb is i could plug the switch box usb to get power or im sure use some old phone usb charger.
What i have set up with the target tv is blu ray player, apple tv old model, kodi box, i have some switch to get the Yamaha soundbar to work with tv as the cheap tv was not working eith soundbar that well.

I got firestick for this tv so obviously all ports are used up on tv

        • Ditch the Kodi box…

How Do I Install Kodi on a Fire TV Stick?

Installing Kodi on your Fire TV Stick requires you to download Kodi's APK from its site. Follow the step-by-step guide below to sideload it on your device.

          • On your Fire TV Stick, navigate to Settings > Device > Developer Options and enable the Allow Apps from Unknown Sources option.
          • Install Downloader from the Fire TV app store.
          • Launch Downloader.
          • On Downloader's main page, select the URL bar and type in https://kodi.tv/download.
          • Select Android > ARMV7A (32Bit).
          • Follow all of the subsequent download and installation prompts.
          • Navigate to Settings > Device > Developer Options and disable the Allow Apps from Unknown Sources option.

There, just saved you $20+ on the hdmi switch box 😉

          • @spackbace: Ok cool the kodi box was a good one back in
the day but it's several years old now and im sure the kodi on fire stick will do just the same.
I could use the kodi box with an even older plasma tv In bedroom which yes i upgrade but still works so why bother.
I do use kodi on my 3d tv as an app being its a smart tv.
As the tv im using is cheap one from target a few years back, i got this fire stick to make it more a smart tv.

And as kids like youtube now and again another reason.
My apple tv box is older now and youtube does not work on it anymore.

Reason i keep my apple tv some how i have it set to use Netflix usa which i used to get and my 3d tv Netflix has au Netflix.

Ok if i upgrade to 4k tv this year then least im future proof as fire stick is 4k also.
