Laptop for $1500ish Help Me Make Sense of All The Deals!

Hi all

I've seen a lot of deals come and go on laptops recently and I think I've finally figured out what suits my uses best.

I am looking for a laptop with the following and hoping to be under $1500

i7 or equivalent AMD
16:10 aspect ratio (or similar)
16gb ram (or 32 but probs not in budget)
2K or better resolution
13inch-16inch doesn't really matter
Touch screen
Screen folds to at least 180 degree flat

Any help much appreciated

I know you may have wanted a touchscreen and a folding screen that folds 180 degrees flat. But the M1 MacBook Air is an absolutely amazing an efficient laptop for its price, you can get it discounted for $1349 https://www.apple.com/au-hed/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air/space-… from the education store even if you aren't a student (they dont check). Even though it has 8gb of ram it feels like it has 16gb given how efficiently the chip uses the ram. It is more powerful than most other laptops in its price range and has an amazing battery life since it has no fan and has a chip built by apple, screen is 2k as well and is has very good colours and just looks amazing.
only drawbacks is no touchscreen, doesn't fold 180 degrees, and doesn't really have 16gb for $1349 unless you pay extra for that upgrade but I would recommend just keeping 8gb.

    • Thanks heaps for the response! I really need the touch screen and the 180 degree fold unfortunately. And Windows based 🙃.

There's been some great Lenovo deals under $1000 but no touch or fold out.

I haven't found an option yet that ticks all the boxes except for pricey XPS Dells 🤔

    • Thanks for the list. Unfortunately most either don't have touch, the fold, high enough resolution, and the few that do are well above the budget.

Thought about Surface but cheapest i7 16gb model I found was about $2249. I'd prefer a laptop anyway.

      So yeah still searching 👀

I'd see if you can access HP's refurbished stock list.
Usually pretty good deals in there. Typically full warranty etc. They might just be an older model from the previous quarter or a returned unit that was within the first 7 days (or whatever the period is). They go through a pretty reasonable quality check and are often re-cased and back to factory standards.
Picked a few up for friends and family over the years.

Think Lenovo offers the same, as does Dell. IMO - HP has a slightly better level of customer service (usually)…

Can use a cash back plugin like ShopBack for a few extra $$$ also.

  • Did you have a look at recent Lenovo Flex 5 deals?..

Another one is Dell Inspiron 7506 black edition. This has touch and some pen slot also. I am looking for similar laptop too. Unfortunately I couldn't find any stock for dell 7506.
