  • you have to ask why a camera that retails at $1,099 (link provided) is now $299…

    • Part of the reason, would be that you don't get the lens which can and often is the same price as the body.

    • Apologies, the link provided was to the G2 + 14-42mm kit RRP.

The $999 RRP for the body only is here - http://www.panasonic.com.au/Products/Lumix/G+Micro+Series/DM…

Also, the bonus battery represents great value, and we thought that a battery would be more useful for people who don't want to bother with wasting money on a kit lens. So they could get the body and kit it with a better lens of their choice.

this camera is smaller the standard DSRL - my wife actually doesn't mind this camera because it is smaller

    tempted to upgrade my G1 ( G1 doesn't have video )

    • I bought a new Lumix DMC-G10 on eBay recently for about $350. Came with the 14-42mm kit lens. Can take HD videos. Quite good quality! Not sure how much difference is this G2?

Good deal. Kit lens isn't worth $200 anyway, better off with the 20mm pancake or adapted old lenses.

    • Aggree. In fact, I have the kit lens from a GH2 I never use. If anyone in Melbourne wants to take advantage of this deal and get a virtually unused 14-42 lens let me know :)

  • I have to +ve this, its a good price and DCW are a great company to deal with. I had an issue with my Olympus E-PM1, and they swapped it out twice, and they even offered to swap for a 3rd time. More details here…

    • They also swapped out an E-PM1 for me and let me change the colour at the same time, ha ha. Different issue though (bright pixel on the sensor)

This is an excellent price for this type of camera. The kit lens can be had for around $80ish on that auction site if you don't mind getting second hand. I use either the pancake primes (14mm & 20mm) or the 14-140mm lens that came with the GH1 so I don't care about the kit lens. The Micro Four Thirds system has a lot more desirable lenses in their lineup so not having a kit lens is probably a good thing.

Sure, this is an older model but it's still capable of producing excellent quality pics and videos. I'd get one right now if I didn't already have a GF1 and GH1. Definitely worth considering if you're after DSLR quality images but want something a lot smaller.

  • The G3 with 14-42 lens can be had from B&H in New York for $US599 plus $60 odd postage.
G3 is better in low light with an improved 16mb sensor and also more compact form.

    I bought DMC-GF2 with 14-42 lens for 299
