Parramatta Officeworks price matched this for me so I ended up paying only $23.70 - there were at least about 5 boxes left there.

  • Hmm, tempted to get for the 550D twin kit I got, but 2kg max load isn't very much.

    • What lens will you be putting on a 550D that will put it over it's weight limit? And why!

      • Anything above 200mm range is pretty beefy. I think this would be borderline for my d700 and 70-200 lense

      • I've got the twin lens kit, so the zoom lens already puts it over 1kg. Not to mention that if I wanted to use a decent flash I could be over the 2kg limit with just the 18-55 lens.

  • How stable are these?

  • I have this tripod - it's pretty stable but have had issues with the centre pole's ring coming apart, I think that's an issue with my use of it.

It's a good size and has all the range of movement required - I probably wouldn't want to use it for smooth pans though.

Edit: That said, definitely a deal for the price.

    • I bought a Slik SDV-550 in Dec 2008 from the Good Guys, during a dollar on cost sale. Not sure where that rates compared to the F630. I think I paid about $20. Anyway… I used it for the first time recently at a wedding. I thought the leveling bubbles were a great idea - until I saw the photos! Despite me moving the camera and tripod into several different configurations during the wedding, every single photo was tilted.

I didn't notice this while taking the photos, because it was very sunny - so I had to switch from the large LCD and use the tiny viewfinder instead. (I guess the tiny viewfinder made the tilting less noticeable.) The error could have been compounded by the fact I was taking shots from some distance away, but who knows. (The bride & groom were up a number of stairs on a vintage concert stand type thing in the middle of a park - and all the guests down at ground level.)

Even so, I was really disappointed in the photos. A number of them were closeups with no room to crop - the rest were from a distance, so even if I crop them, you can see the vertical framework of the concert stand is tilted. In short - nearly all photos are terrible. I would have been better off holding it in my hand. I guess it's true - you get what you pay for.

This may not even bother someone else, but since you did ask… ;-)

  • I bought this when it first went on sale. Really like it for the price.

  • thanks for the office work advice, I've shot gunned the last one at Milton's OW QLD. just in case anyone was gonna inquire.

  • I have got the exact same model and it's pretty good, good size and easy to use as well.

  • IMO, it is pretty good tripod for the price. I purchased one few days ago, when I saw it in Ted's Cameras. Can't complain it for 25 bucks.

  • The velbon sherpa 250r is pretty decent as well since it comes with a case. Sturdy tripod with decent max height. Head is ok, great for a beginner since you can upgrade it to something else later on.

I'm pretty sure most TEDs have these on display as well.

I never understand why people put expensive cameras on tripods that fall over in a gust of wind..

    • +2

Maybe not everyone uses their tripods in the wind?

  • Bought one. Thanks OP. Got a lowepro adventura 160 bag to go with it too. $40 was the best I found (in a quick search) for online price, so I figured I may as well just get one now.

    • No prob! I was able to get hold of Lowepro 160 for $29.70 at videopro last month here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59133, but unfortunately the deal was over :(

      • Yeah, I only saw that deal after it had expired. Given I've already got the camera I kind of need a bag for it now and can't wait for another deal.

    • Should have gotten the biin officeworks bag for 30 bucks. You'll be a walking target with the Lowe pro one

      • I don't really want a backpack for the camera, and I don't go on holiday much to be in places where I'll be "a walking target".

  • +1

Thanks OP! Managed to pick up the last one at OW on King St

  • I personally haven't tried it yet on my 1100D, though this tripod have pretty amazing reviews in amazon http://www.amazon.com/Slik-F630-Economy-Tripod-Medium/produc…

  • Price matched the last one from Officeworks, Yarraville, VIC. They are going away fast
