What Are People's Experiences with The Telstra Phone Trade-in via Kingfisher?

I'm finding the lack of communication and the conflicting trade-in instructions both unprofessional and annoying.

Here's what happened:

  1. Bought a new phone on Telstra wanting to take advantage of the $500+phone value trade-in credit and then went through the assessment tool on a Kingfisher link via the Telstra website. Got a confirmation number and the screen message said I would get an email shortly with additional instructions and that a return satchel would be sent to me. No email or satchel was received.

  2. After phone was delivered the next day, I jumped on Telstra chat to confirm what the process was supposed to be. Told them no confirmation email was received. After a bit of back and forth, the agent said to wait a few days. Then at the end of the chat session, an email magically appeared in my mailbox from Telstra Device Care with an Australia Post return code. The email contained my device name and IMEI so I thought all was sweet. I then went to Telstra's Facebook page to just if I was just supposed to get a return code and not the satchel. They confirmed it was correct.

  3. Took the phone to Australia Post and the phone was on its merry way.

  4. According to the trade-in instructions, I was supposed to get another confirmation email and sms. Nothing has been received.

  5. Now I'm wondering if the phone has actually gone to Kingfisher. I looked up the tracking and it went to a suburb where the Brightstar (I think that's another one of Telstra's partners) warehouse is. And there is no direct contact details with Kingfisher.

I've got all the screenshots of the offers and chat transcripts. Wondering if this will end up at the Telstra complaints area or the TIO.

  • I personally thought that their trade-in price was laughable, so never used them.

    • I was supposed to get $100 for the Note8. It's alright for a 3-4 year phone.

  • @kyle did this end up working out? I'm in the same boat as you as I signed up for the bonus $300 trade in offer. Haven't received any email confirmation or SMS. No return satchel in sight either.

    I returned my pixel 6 to a Telstra store yesterday, got nothing from them to confirm they've received it - and have not got anything in my email etc

    Tracking from the kingfisher link also doesn't show the device as lodged.

    Now it was only done midday yest, but seeing this thread has me a bit worried.

      Ended up being fine, just lacking in communication

    • Just an update on this - received a text on the 6/1/23 reminding me to send in my device. Then about 30 minutes later, I got a text thanking me for sending in the device..and not long later, I got notified that the credit had been successfully applied.

      Yet to see it in my account, I believe it comes in on my next bill. Wil wait and see.

      • Got my new bill today, credit has been applied as expected.

  • Total disaster. Telstra emailed me saying there had been an error in their system, they didn't end up sending me the AusPost return consignment number until Nov 4th and are now claiming that I didn't apply for the device return before the offer expired (Oct 31st) - still going back and forth with Telstra via live chat to try get the bonus $300.

    • I am having the same issue! I returned the phone to my Telstra store as it said that was an option on the 24/12/22. I kept getting email notifications reminding me to return my phone. I call Telstra to see what’s up and the guy on the phone says that he can see on my account that I have returned it and to ignore the notifications from kingfisher telling me to return it. I do just that and after another week or so it says it’s expired. So I have now been going back and forth with Telstra to no solution. I am at a loss. Please join me in writing a bad review on the kingfisher trade in Google review. Also if anyone has a proper Telstra contact please share, no one I talk to can help they just keep asking me question after question and getting no where.

  • wow i was considering the trade-in promo for the S23 since i missed out on the pre-order deals but guess I'll give KingFisher/telstra a miss!
