Vodafone Standard Mobile Broadband Starter Pack with 3GB Data $19.95 at The Good Guys

70

This deal does not come close to NetPlus's $9 deal but that deal is sold out and came without an USB modem. Woolworths is selling the same starter pack at $24.50 starting tomorrow (Wednesday 15 February).

At time of posting Good Guy's product page shows a price of $47. The provided link goes to Lasoo with the correct price of $19.95.

(Edit: added reference to USB modem and added Woolworths deal start date.)

Only if Voda had any coverage

Thank you for pointing that out. I think it should become a standard disclaimer for any Vodafone deal. :-)

  • The 9dollar deal didn't come with a usb dongle though did it?

    • +2

No it did not and I missed that important difference.

So you can think of this deal as $9 for 3GB and SIM, and $10.95 for the USB modem.

      • It's sweet deal.

  • Thought it was bad deal at first seen its voda but the modem makes it worthwhile (not that branding brings any confidence)

  • even @ this mediocre-ish price =67 cents/day, on Oz's smallest footprint 3G net, each GB would cost ~ $7- rounded to nearest Dollar , you could probably get for cheaper get $500 worth of calls included as additional on Optus' far broader network.
    29 * 0.9 / 45 =58c /day<—Woolworths 45day recharge w/ 5,000 megs on your phone/tablet. Great.

edit: but this deal is quite fair for the supply of a modem.

    • I thought Woolies' SIM -didn't- do data -except- in their 2 phones; ie, no data in your 3G-ready computer…

We had no luck getting Internet in another phone, even after lots of help from Woolies' Help Desk. In the end they said they don't think it works on others' phones, computers or dongles.

I still have an unused W-SIM, so - if you know the work-arounds - let us know, in detail, thanks. :-)

      • I haven't heard that. Of course, if you tried it on hardware locked with another carrier you could've stumbled on an obstacle.
It does work fine though on generic phones, whether you're after Data (5Gbytes), minutes ($500 Voice credits) OR both. I easily ported my Telstra number to Woolies Optus, and data was working right away on five years old 'Windows Mobile' (HTC TyTn II/Kaiser, imported) handset.
(When I raise the firmware on my Android 2.2->2.3 Liquid Metal 2011 phone I'll use the SIM in that modem & smartphone)
I have family using these recharges in just a $50 dumb phone (non carrier subsidised) purchased standalone, being non technical or a senior they just wanted lots of talk time.

  • It's not reasonable to compare a modem that comes with included data, with just a data plan. Most people would be buying something like this because they need a modem, not simply for the data. It's still cheap data though, compared to Telstra, but yeah, I know, their coverage is better. This is about as cheap as I have seen them.

EDIT Does officeworks sell these? lol

    • Contact Vodafone and haggle. As their pricing is flexible.
Not unuasual to get upto 25% off advertised pricing on their website.

  • Does the 3gb last for 1 month?

    • +1

it says 30 days on the Voda website

  • Does anyone know the modem model number? It seems to be a Huawei from the website pics.
There is no mention of it being locked.. or is it?

  • Why it cannot be ordered from their website? All I got is out of stock.

    • If you're after this special you're going to have to go to Woolworths, not vodafone.

      • Thanks. I mean how can I order one from theGoodguys website.

      • -1

Has vodafone ever offered a special that wasn't over before it began ?
i.e. merely attention-seeking, or indicative cash flow problems.

..doesn't seem a very 'genuine' sort of operation though does it. Better go Wool's.

        • Um the special is from THE GOOD GUYS, not Voda.
Just got one for $19 from them, but it is locked, $25 online to unlock

      • They must want us in the store. Power to the GoodGuys team.

    • +2

No idea. But the discount started on 14 February so it seems unlikely to be out of stock just one day into the promotion.

I would telephone the store to confirm the stock level. GG's web site seems poorly maintained. For example, my provided link to GG still shows $47.

  • Just tried ringing several GG in sydney who deny such deals despite informing them of lasoo advert. or its out of stock….

    • Apparently GG is out of stock in NSW or Sydney anyhow, according to person who spoke on phone.
Decided to stuff it, and buy one from Woolies for a bit more @ $24.50

    • The ad is printed in the current paper catalogue and is being shown on TV. How they can deny the existence of the deal is beyond me.

I will keep this in mind next time I post a GG deal. Sorry this one didn't work out for you.

      • Bought one from GG Rockdale and paid $19.00. There was one more left.

  • I got one from Good Guys Robina, scanned at $47 but showed them their own catologue (that was available to pickup in the store..)
