  • What does this do that I can't just do with my line out?

    • Cleans up any noise, particularly useful if you have a shit motherboard like mine that has a lot of electrical interference, although any cheaper one with good measurements will be just as good. An Apple 3.5mm dongle also works quite well as a DAC, use it for my phone.

Would be a lot better than onboard headphones out and probably optical. Looks like you still need a headphone amp unless just running it to some speakers with own volume control.

I got an iFi Zen Dac,slightly more at $199, but something for people to consider/compare (can't also use as a preamp/DAC (with MQA), and has a headphone output and handy volume control. Actually v2 is released now, slightly more.

  • im no expert but the inputs look pretty limited. coax?
    what outputs coax audio?

    • It's got USB in. So you'd go USB in, to amp, to peripherals (headphones or speakers)

    nuclear level ignorance ITT

you would use this in a hifi system between your laptop or whatever digital source and your preamp/integrated amp/receiver

usb coax and toslink has been standard for like, i dunno, a decade

very good dac for the money, not quite as good as a topping at same price but i doubt many people could tell on most systems
