UV can make plastics go brittle, right?

review from Google :) "Best used as an UV sterilizer or as a lunchbox."

    • +1

Possible… if you use it consistently for a long enough period! This only works for 10 minutes at a time. So I am doubtful.

Correction - A wireless charging lunch box with free Samsung USB-C Cable

Just leave your phone in the sun for 10 minutes and save $17.75

        • +1

Have you put your phone in the sun for 10 minutes before? You won't be using it for the next 30 minutes.

    • +1

On top of this, a lot of android phones use an OLED screen which are suspectable to UV light. I have no evidence of this, but I would guess after a bit of use it would start to degrade the screen.

      • +1

Before you know it we'll be tinting the glass on our phone screens to protect them from sterilisers 😂

        • think you can get tinted screen protectors.

    • +1

      They will fit inside? 🤔

      • only if the newborn is not attached to it.

      • well you dont know size of the parents,…..

      • Hope so! Says it's 5cm high so maybe just.

      • Can always blend it to make it fit, Just make sure its the dummies and not the baby in the blender…

  • bought one… hoping it actually works on some germs

Tested by two independent certification companies, Intertek and SGS
UV-C light kills up to 99% of certain harmful germs and bacteria, including E.coli, Staphylococcus, and Candida albicans.

But will it kill the delta strain? Also, if i leave the lid open while charging, will it slowly sterlise the whole house?

        • Also, if i leave the lid open while charging, will it slowly sterlise the whole house?

Only if you have the rotating diamond stand* that sits above it and refracts the light everywhere.

          *Diamond not included

      • Thanks for the specific info - this is pretty rare for these! Was this a report for this specific unit, for the LEDS, or the technology in general?

  • +4

  • +2

    • Pretty similar, but I would imagine this hasn't been tested/verified for sterilisation efficacy?

    • I assume you mean the charging, otherwise how could you tell?

      • Check the Samsung link I provided. This product was laboratory tested.

  • +2

Back in stock in case anyone still wants one

  • Wasn't there a Homedics post for $5 not long ago? Is this one really worth 3 times the price (even if it is on special)

I still don't understand how these UV light steriliser is better than just water and alcohol. Alcohol kills literally all the germs and viruses.

    • uv light kills germs. well a particular form of it. is it better than water and alcohol? well depends.

    • Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you neg the deal. Do some research…

Alcohol does not kill all germs and viruses. Neither does UV-C light.

  • +1

I dont know about these. They have a 1 watt UV Light.

This commercial 35watt product has a handy calculator on the page to find how long exposure is needed for the distance to surface + germ type for a 35watt light.

    https://www.cureuv.com/products/germawayuv-35-watt-handheld-…

    • I remember reading somewhere that most of these low powered UV lights aren't strong enough to actually kill anything. But for this price, it's ok if you just want a peace of mind.

Promo expired anyway. Worst eBay Tuesday…

  • Got mine today, its faulty out of the box. It would charge my phone but wouldn't turn on the sterilization at all. I noticed the lid had a little raised bit that pushed a little button at the back which was how it knew the lid was closed and then could start sterilization.

I manually pushed in the button and it worked straight away, I then closed the lid an applied pressure to the back of the lid and it works.

So the only way it works out of the box is to push down at the back of the lid at the same time you press the on button! wow, junk.

    • Just contact MC, they will replace it.

      • Yeah they refunded.
