If you are within distance, see if they are still offering instant cashback for warehouse pickups. I got this table about 6months ago and got a 10% refund

    • Distance of what?

      • +1

of their pickup points: Northmead in NSW, Willawong in QLD and Mulgrave in VIC. See half way down the ebay listing for exact address details.

  • +1

So you just put an IKEA top on these?

    • +2

      Yes any.
From ikea or bunning, your choice.

I have this. No problem at all. Happy.
Got sms a day before delivery, then delivered on time on Saturday morning. Good store.

      • do you need to drill the holes into the table top yourself?

        • +5

          they aren't gonna drill themselves.

          But the answer is yes.

I've got one of these, works well. I have an ikea 'saljan' or something kitchen countertop on it.

          • @knk: cool thanks….it's just that I'm not handy nor do I have a drill…lol

            • @homersyd: You can try. Drills are cheap. Eso 2nd hand.

If you are worried abt drilling too deep then just add a stop. I did this by measuring how deep to drill, then i put a tonne of hot glue at that mark and let it set super hard… Then just drill until you hit the hotglue

              • @shadow131: thanks mate, might give it a go

              • +1

@shadow131: Hot glue works, but I recommend just putting a piece of masking tape on the drill bit at your selected depth instead. Easier to put on and easier to take off.

            • +1

@homersyd: Honestly I just used the self tapping screws and drilled them straight into my Ikea bamboo top (it's not solid so easy to drill into).

Step 1 flip table top upside down and put the constructed frame upside down on it

Step 2 line it up and maybe tape it into position to stop it from slipping.

Step 3 predrill If you want or just drive the screws in with a drill

              • @Gmetal: thanks for the detail steps :)

              • @Gmetal: @homersyd I've done the same thing and haven't had any issues.

Just make sure the screws have no chance of protruding through the other side of the tabletop and you can't really go wrong. No need to predrill unless you're at risk of splitting the material, with laminate this is unnecessary.

Grab yourself a cheap impact driver rather than a drill (or a kit with both ideally) if it's not cost prohibitive and you're good to go. Either will do the job, a driver is just much easier / nicer to use for things like this.

While you're at it jump on aliexpress and grab yourself some allen key bits for it for a few dollars and never turn anything by hand again.

        • You'll usually wanna drill pilot holes if you're using some kind of hardwood which may split if you directly drive a screw into it. I didn't need to do pilot holes when I constructed my standing desk with a laminate desktop.

I purchased this table 3,4 months ago.

it is not working when you press the 'up' keep, the table will go out and then down..

When you press the 'down' keep, the table will go down and then up.

    • Could you please explain this a little more? So is it proper broken?

    • +6

This gets mentioned every time with a standing desk. Did you reset the desk after you put it together?

Edit: Also looks like the one you bought is from a different ebay store? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/623556#comment-10468177

Do you have the controller box(the big black box that you connect all the cables into) mounted flat against the underside of the desk?
I bought this in the last sale and tried testing out my unit before screwing in my Ikea desktop but was getting the same issue. Turns out there is a 'safety' feature(Collision detection/anti-tip over) that is based off if that black box moves off level whilst going up or down. If you have it fixed against the desk and the desk is level, it should be more reliable(Still not 100 percent but much more usable if you don't rock the table whilst raising/lowering)

I've just got mine set up with the Saljan benchtop and am loving it so far.

Also, as a purchase tip, add the item to your wishlist and every few days, the seller seems to send out a 10% discount offer that you can then stack with this coupon.

Second tip-I you are going to pick up, there is very poor signage at their warehouse but head into the office building with the childrens playground outside it(The whole place looks abandoned) to get your order checked off by the people there, then they'll direct you to go around to the actual warehouse behind the office to collect your item.

EDIT: This is an in progress pic of my setup(gotta tame all those cables!).

      • +1

If you have problems with cables, consider
        -cable management bracket Ikea Signum
        - multi power point adapter. server PDU GPO are a good starting point

Actually bought this last week $233.99 after codes. Awaiting stock for pickup from Melbourne warehouse. Will be moving our existing WFM setup across. Previously had a 10way PDU GPO underneath the desk with the Ikea Signum brackets to keep cables neat and off the ground.

      • Set up looking good so far! Do you know if the frame has a collision avoidance detection so if it hits something on the way down it will stop?

      • I've just got mine set up with the Saljan benchtop(ikea.com) and am loving it so far.

I see you have gone with the oak / laminate. There should be no issues with the black marble / laminate model, right?

        https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/saeljan-worktop-black-marble-ef…

        • I don't foresee any, theyre all made up of the same material(unless you go up to the $250 range of benches eg.Karlby which are solid timber).

          • @Easy Money: I don't think Karlby is solid timber. Its base material is particleboard but it does have a thick top layer of walnut vaneer.

  • +$500 delivery for me.

  • regarding 500 delivery.,. I saw the same. became free when I logged in to ebay

    • rearding the delivery fee, it has been mentioned every single time someone posted a deal about this particular frame.

  • Pretty good value frame. I do however get issues every couple of months where the desk (when at its lowest point) would raise ~5cm then come back down. Sometimes a reset works, other times unplugging the cables in the power pack may solves the issues.

    What a day!

I am assembling this frame at the moment!

tried to use the brekant table top, but it is a bit too thin at only 18mm. the screws included are also 18mm long…. bougt a pack of 15mm long screws from the bunning around lunch time. but still decided to go back to ikea to pick up the startak(?) table top. they only have the shitty beige color, no white in stock.

literally at this moment, i have two table tops lying infront of me. it is a bit difficult to decide which i should keep which go.

    • +5

      Buy another frame

    • Do you need to drill holes in the table top?

      • +2

Yes you do. I used 3mm thick 15mm long screws with 2mm pilot holes

Also used a 18mm thick top

    • You may get 68$ panel from bunnings, but that will need diy to make it ready.

    • I used this: https://www.bunnings.com.au/specrite-2200-x-600-x-26mm-merba…

But cut it down to size, works great.

      • I was thinking of getting something from Ikea, but maybe this is a better option. It's it ready to use as-is or would it need treatment etc?

        • No further treatment needed

        • I just made a desk with this exact piece. It is raw when you buy. You could get away with doing nothing but it is not perfectly smooth. The front and back edges do have a slight rounding so you could also avoid routing. If not varnishing, At a bare minimum I’d recommend sanding to 360 grit.

I routed whole thing and did 3 coats water based poly (sanding at 240 grit between coats). Much nicer colour, smooth, and protected.

          • @Wombatstew: Could you plz show us (Picture) how it looks? Looking for ideas.

        • I didn’t do anything. It’s already been finished ready for use.

    • +1

I bought the 140cm version of this and it's stunning and solid wood. White also available.

    • +1

In the end I used the white brekant table top. 18mm table top works perfectly with 18mm screws in this case (with included washers). Gotta return the startak(?) desk top. If the local ikea has the white colour in stock, I will certainly pick the cheaper startak. Btw,I use a 160x80mm table top.

  • Just installed this exact desk, working great so far.

  • What's the required depth of the top? I can't really see it in the spec. Looks like the top of the frame is 575mm deep, so can I assume that the top simply need to be 575mm+?

    • Yes it's 575mm - if you click on 'See full description', there is a spec image with the frame dimensions. The bottom horizontal part of the frame legs are 700mm though, so you may want a 700mm deep top to match (if you're OCD like me).

  • would it work with a 2.4m table top from ikea?

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/ekbacken-worktop-ash-effect-lam…

    • +2

Max width of this is 180cm, you gonna have 30cm overhang on each side.

It might work granted you don't put any thing heavy or lean on the area past the table legs. It might topple over or cause bowing on your table over time.

Make sure the table top is solid wood and not that cardboard honeycomb bullsh*t Ikea makes. You need something solid for the screws to go in.

      • You don’t need solid wood, although that would be nice. IKEA’s honeycomb cupboard works perfectly. Better do some research first

  • Anyone know where to buy wheels for this frame?

  • +2

Been looking at these desks. Got one from here. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/254755084654

Also there are these available if you want the desk as well for $50 more. Also some come with 2021 model that holds 120kg. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/143668067985

    • Great find, I am getting the one with the table top

    • +1

So the difference between 2ARE1 and 2ARE2 is that the latter is a newer version? I was just wondering about that.

Since the price is the same, I assume there is no reason not to go for the newer one (besides that it seems to have less availability)?

      • It looks like 2AR2 holds 20kg more, from 100kg on the 2AR1 to 120kg on the 2AR2, that looks to be the only difference.

Went on their website and saw there is a version 2AR3 on their website. It has an increased range giving an extra 10cm down and 5cm up along with 120kg. https://www.trsports.com.au/Electric-Standing-Desk-p/furni-2…

  • Can I ask anyone who has one of these desk tell me how much do they shake or are the pretty solid in that respect please.

    • +2

At 1m high, tgere is very little shake when typing and writing. Almost unoticable. At 1.2m it shakes more and is noticable. But you neeed to be pretty tall to use it at 1.2m

  • OoS

  • +1

Excellent table I would highly recommend. I paid $400 for it and would buy it again no problems. Very heavy and sturdy frame. Easy to follow instructions and great motor.

No shaking at all when you're sitting down and doing normal office duties. Move speed is fast and whilst standing it is fairly sturdy as well - just don't bump it and knock it around. Excellent price and doesn't feel cheap. Motor isn't strong enough for you to sit on and press 'up' but good memory settings for home use.

I paired it with the solid wooden table top from Ikea and the holes perfectly aligned to enable easy installation. You need a power drill to do this part unless you've got really strong hands.

    AMA.

    • Which Ikea tabletop is that? Looking for one now. What are the mix and max heights with desktop/equipment on it?

  • I've had this for a few months now, and it's worked brilliantly absolutely no issues. Recommend it. Honestly really smooth and quiet operation which I wouldn't have expected at this price.

  • Anyone got this working on the IKEA Karlby table top?

  • Is this one better than IKEA one that’s going for $250? I know that not motorised but how is this quality wise?

  • Does anyone know if this (or another) would work with a corner desk, which would typically have three such legs?
I suspect there's a big price jump up to go from a two leg electrical to a three leg… but if it has plugs for three legs, then maybe the control box already does this.

  • add google/alexa smart relay and say google raise the desk….

  • I have reached out to them today via Messenger and they were very accommodating. Upgraded/exchanged this one for the 2AR3 version and desk top for an extra $60.

    • do you have the link for the 2AR3 version

    • Just to clarify the model on this deal is of type 2ARE1?

AFAIK, other than dimensions, there aren't any functional differences between 2ARE1 and 2AR3 units.

Also, they don't seem to be selling any 2AR3 units via their eBay store, which is rather disappointing.
I guess the trick is to hit them up on Messenger after the eBay purchase, like you have done.

      • Extra 20kg max weight on the 2 and 3.
Extra 10cm down and 5cm up on the 3.

        • Thanks. I understand the differences.

Is the model linked under OP's deal 2ARE1?
It is not clearly stated on the eBay listing. Maybe it is, and I somehow missed it.

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Oops I got used to answering that question. Yes I am pretty sure this one is 2AR1. Given it doesn't have the features of the 2 and 3.

In the description of this deal on eBay it has both 1 and 3. Not sure why the 3 but I guess it's the 1.

  • Does anyone know where I can get one of those contour/curved/ergonomic desk tops, or know how I can make one?

I’ve always wanted to buy a frame only and get a desk top separately as I can get something more solid for the desk but I haven’t worked out how to get the ergonomic desk top. I type a lot so it makes a difference to me to have the ergonomic curve.

    • Please let me know if you work this out. Im interested in a similar one

    • You mean the curve notch in the table where you sit?

      • Yeah, Omnidesk, Uplift and a couple of other brands also have a similar type of desk… I just can't work out who the desk supplier is.

The closest I found is an Alibaba supplier but I don't expect they'll let me buy a small number of pieces, let alone, the shipping to here will be crazy expensive.

        • ah, you looking at the slop on the edge?

          • @shadow131: Not sure what you call it, but it's the curve where you sit, close to where your keyboard would be.

By having that "cut out", it lets you move closer in to the desk and then rest your arms on the desk, which makes a huge difference if you're typing for long periods of time.

            • @b-t: Erm.

Initial thoughts.. To do it on the cheap..

Get a long straight but flexible piece of plastic such as a pvc pipe… Form the curve you want and trace it out

Get a jig saw and just follow the curve to cut it out

Then lots of manual sanding to get it smooth.

  • You can always ask Bunnings to cut it to your specs

    • +2

Only straight cuts at bunnings fyi, and you have to buy the wood there
