Long time stalker, first time poster. Let me know if I should make any changes to the post or if I need to clarify anything.

Got a message from Vodafone saying I could save ~$500 off an iPhone 12 and to call customer care on 1300 650 410. They confirmed that I could get $510 off any storage variant iPhone 12 on a plan over 24 or 36 months, and that it is not a targeted offer. Any customer (Vodafone or non Vodafone) can call Vodafone customer care and sign up to an iPhone 12 plan getting the $510 off.

I've posted a link to the Vodafone iPhone 12 page because I have to, but keep in mind the discount seems to only be available over the phone (1300 650 410).

Mod note: OP is associated to Vodafone and has sockpuppeted.

There are better deals for the iPhone but it's still a "deal".

    • +81

You are the reason people fear sharing their thoughts.. It’s a deal

    • +12

I figure it's a deal for people considering Vodafone and also considering getting an iPhone 12. $510 off the latest IPhone, despite being on a plan with a phone provider, still seems like a pretty big discount to me.

      • +26

You dont have to justify yourself. You are sharing something with the community which you think is a deal. The community owes you. Not the other way around.

  • +6

Vodafone is a dirty word, you can't get reception in a coastal areas with Vodafail.

    • +12

Regular swapper, they all have their advantages up and down east coast. Voda works well plenty of spots Telstra don’t.

    • +8

Coastal? not sure that applies all over.

I live near the coast and get next to no Telstra reception but Optus and Voda a fine.

      • +1

I concur. I live in near the city and Telstra is horrible, I get at most 2-3 bars on 4G and the internet drops out alot. Although outside of my house the reception is faster for Telstra.

Overall Vodafone is better atleast it's consistent inside and outside of the house and at full bars.

    • +3

Maybe the Vodafone of the past but nowadays they are significantly better. Unsure what coastal areas you're referring to but I've been on Optus, Telstra and Voda over the past few years and they're comparable in my experience. Good and bad.

      • +1

Canada's coastline is far far longer, amongst others.

        • +1

I suspect voda reception is no good along the Canadian coastline, I have no evidence though.

  • +13

No deal, you got discount for the phone, rip off by the plan

    • -1

      Yea, no dealllllllllll

  • what would this make the total cost over 24months?

    • +1

Since the phone would be $839 on a plan, if we divide that by 24 it would be about $35 per month for the phone alone, then you can talk with the vodafone customer care agent to see what deal you can get on the plan.

      • +5

The cheapest plan is $40 per month for 40GB. Total cost would be $960 for plan + $839 for phone = $1,799. I guess if you were planning to buy a new iphone 12 and need 40GB per month it's not a bad deal. The main benefit is that if you can't afford to buy the phone outright you can pay it off over two years by locking yourself into a more expensive than necessary phone plan.

    • Just go to the site.

  • +1

    How much for Early Termination?

    • Keen to know too. Since the phone is bought outright with a "discount".

    • It depends if it's a recurring monthly discount on the bill, or if you sign up to the phone with an actual reduced RRP. I'm not too sure which it is though.

      • +6

No deal. Called Vodafone and the "discount" is not upfront but over the course of the contract. Means buying an iPhone at RRP with no ETC to cancel early.

  • How are Vodafone plans lately?

Amaysim throwing data at me and just buying the 11 pro max outright has been good for me.

    Gonna need an upgrade soon

  • -3

Alright so I rang, was really confusing. She didn’t get what I meant by minimum cost if I cancelled after one month. But she said the $510 discount is spread over 24 months. So this isn’t really a deal unless you want to go with Vodafone

    • So it is a $510 on a 24 months repayment plan if you are contracted for a 24 months data+calls plan, NOT a discount?

  • +1

This offer is available via Customer Care only. Not available in stores or online. Right now it is available for new connections and additional services only.

  • +1

I do not understand, how much monthly cost I am looking at if I'm planning to go for the cheapest 24 Months plan before and after discount?

    • +2

      let say you buy $40 plan / month + $49.95 for the iphone 12 64GB for 24months so for 2 years it will cost $2158.8 - $510 = $1648.8 / 24 = $68.7 / month for iphone 12 64gb over 2 years

      • ohhhh nice … . no deal!!! :P

      • +1

Your math is off. I just signed up. Cheapest plan is $40. I picked iPhone 12 64GB ($839), so total is $74.95 per month over 24 months for the phone and sim plan.

        • +1

Phone discount is good but the 40gb for $40 makes it a very meh deal

          • @wots: I use about 20GB a month, so 40GB for me is plenty :)

This deal is great if you wanna stick to iPhones

        • May I know does your plan comes with the bonus data 30gb for the $40 plan that you signed up? It is mentioned it cannot be used with any other promotional offer in the t&c. (I assume if there is a $510 off to the phone then a customer may not get bonus data) The customer care mentioned they cannot enter the code to 'activate' the offer or something.

          • +1

@neuhknik: Yea the $40 plan comes with 30GB data bonus as shown on their website.
Customer care rep mentioned that I’m getting both :) The bonus and iPhone promotion.

  • Does anyone know if this applies to the iPhone mini too?

    • +3

It does not in case anyone is wondering.

  • Eww, Skodaphone.

  • Pretty sure it's targeted sms offer.

  • -1

just called Vodafone and was informed that this applies to new plan only. so you will get a new phone and a new number!

    • you mean, it is not possible to port the number from a different company like Coles?

      • +1

Just signed up. I was told I can port in my number.

  • Signed up couple days ago for mini. Annoying

    • Ring them about it. They may change it for you.

  • Wonderful! Was just looking for something like this. Thanks OP!

  • I wonder if you can do it on a 12 mth plan

    • No you can’t. 24 or 36 months.

      • Funny how Vodafone is picking up Optus' con trick while Optus on the other hand now allow discount on 12 months contract.

Have to say Vodafone is really much better that it use to be. When I leave which is within 100m to the tower, Optus and Voda is about head to head with Telstra really falling behind.

Another note, I recently join the 5G crowd with Optus on a S21. Its really overrated with good down speed but up speed did not change a bit. In this department I recall Vodafone is doing much better even it only on 4G.

        • Voda has 5G in my area, but not Optus. thinking of switching to Voda now lol

  • Would it be cheaper to buy a iPhone 12 64GB at office works then buy a 365 day prepaid boost

    • Yep. You wouldn't get 40GB/m but you also wouldn't be stuck with Voda.

      • Yes, for a person using 40GB/m of mobile data on their smart phone it would be a good deal,

  • How's Vodafone coverage in Melbourne suburbs compare to Optus?

  • -2

as we all already know Vodafone has the best 5G network ever , makes the iphone 12 really all that more relevant.
Voda is using this offer to showcase their 5G network.

  • -1

I called up and the operator claimed this offer is for existing customers only.

    • They told me this offer is for a new service only.

      • Yeah, I was told it was for new accounts only. Best offer they could do for me (an existing customer) was $150 off the handset on a 36 month plan….

  • Didn't work for me, customer care said that it was for existing accounts that received the SMS only.

    • It works for me as a new account/customer. May be try ring again and say you are interested with iphone and see what their best offer. The customer care says it is a $150 off RRP for the phone (same as online) and additional $360 total savings divided by either 24/36 months if you stay with Vodafone, effectively getting $510 off in total for phone and sim plan.

  • Why is everybody so off this plan? It's not bad. If someone wants the iPhone 12 and doesn't wanna buy it outright, this is the best they gonna get.

Almost anyone you talk to is paying $80 to $100 a month for their iPhone plan on either optus/telstra/videophone.

I'd say 80% of people with the latest model year phones is using an iPhone and it's being paid off over 24 months.

My point is this discount is quite good for most people even without considering that voda offers the most data per dollar compared to optus and telstra.

  • Ok, called vodafone and…. no discount in the plans (used to have $5 a month off) but $510 of ONLY iPhone12 phones over 24 or 36 months (not 12)

  • Just received the phone and ported my number from Optus to Voda. All went well.
However, you need to call Voda and make sure to ask them to apply both offers: 1. Extra 30GB on $40 Plan. 2. The discount on iPhone.
Apparently, they couldn't apply both offers at the same time when I first signed up. Anyway, I called and I was told it will take 24-48 hours to apply both offers.

    • Extra 30 GB? You mean 70 GB data for $40/month?

      • +1

No, the $40 plan is only 10G and they give you extra 30G as bonus.

  • Looks like this offer has been extended to all customers now according to the website - https://www.vodafone.com.au/mobile-phones/iphone-12?capacity…

    • Dang this would have been so much easier lol. Dealing with their reps is pretty painful.

    • Has it ended? Only showing at $150 off for me.
