  They're probably the least accurate type of thermometer from what I understand, but nonetheless they're ideal for use with babies and toddlers who won't tolerate thermometers being stuck in under arm/in ear/etc or who are sleeping.

  I have one for use with small kids and it's been great at detecting fevers. Not sure about accuracy but seems to work fine to monitor if medicine is bringing the fevers down. You can mute sounds, so is great for middle of the night temperature checks.

I wonder how it compares to the VeraTemp Infrascan HD Non-Contact Digital Thermometer - was advertised in TV earlier and looks good, but much more pricey.
