MacBook Pro M1 2020 - Locking System

Hi, all I am a semi-professional musician, and I have been using an old Macbook Air recently for my sounds. Just recently, my Mainstage file has overloaded it, so I took the plunge and purchased an M1 Macbook Pro. Being a $2k investment, I am worried that someone might be tempted to take it. One thing I just noticed is there is no 'security' slot, like most Notebook devices of the last 25 years.

Any recommendation's as to what works well etc. I have found the following 2 units:-

  • Just put up a beware of the dog sign as a deterrent.

  • get the Kensington lock it appears to come with the cable, the other on looks like its the adapter only, Kensington has been doing this stuff for ages.

Mind you if no one stole your old macbook no one probably will steal this one (from a venue perspective), I'd be more worried about getting mugged going back to the car etc.

Yes, I've played gigs like that 30plus years ago. ;)

  • Mac locks one is good. Way more streamlined to match that MacBook aesthetic.

Edit: cheaper on Amazon as per your link OP

    • Yes, I saw that one originally, before finding it on Amazon. (I didn't even look at shipping costs on top).
It looks slim, but I know the screws are only small, so I was curious as to how sturdy, strong and robust it would be?

      • I’d say that’s irrelevant. The limitation will always be the cable.

If someone wants to steal your MacBook, they’re going to steal it.
