Recommend Me an Android Tablet

Hello

I'm looking for an iPad to consume YouTube for entertainment, Netflix, watch follow along work out videos, and most importantly reading ebooks and very occasional annotating so a pen is preferred

I imagine a good screen size is something like iPad size which I believe is approx 10"

I strictly don't want iPad as I'm on Android eco system.

I'm not necessarily in a rush so whatever model you guys recommend, I'll just set up some search alerts and pull the trigger when there's a good bargain

Thanks a lot

Tab S7 is OK. I am currently rocking one, it works perfectly fine. S pen is lovely and all.
If you have the money and belong in the niche group that it fits, I enjoy it enough to recommend it.

Tab S6 Lite might be decent, but it is more of a Tab A tablet in terms of spec (except S-pen) so I am not sure how bad it would be. Samsung is horrid with their lower end devices from my experience.

I think unless you absolutely hate iPadOS to the point where iPadOS stops you from buying the tablet, I think iPad is a better choice for most people.
I never liked iPadOS and Apple's my way or the highway approach to things was why I went with a Tab S7, even though it was bloody expensive.

    • Can the Tab S7 be a replacement for a work laptop? Although it runs Android, I am sure you can install Microsoft Office. What is it that you cannot do on this tab that you'd do on a laptop?

Formatting is very very limited. You can certainly do some of your work in their App version of MS Office, but I don't think you can replace your work laptop with a Tab S7. It sometimes struggled and tried to autocorrect what I was typing… Regardless not the most pleasant experience.

I gave up on doing my thesis work on it beyond a simple, typing up things while I was on the move. I finished most of the thesis stuff on my computer.

That said the positives were, it is light, I can carry it everywhere and it is quiet, reading PDFs on it while lying down is so much easier because it's a tablet, it didn't overheat like most of the laptops I had with long usage.

        • @iridiumstem, thank you! I was so hoping I could replace my laptop with either this or Tab S8 which I believe is coming out early next year. Will stick with my laptop for now.

@upended: I think it'd be very similar with say iPad as well, so if you really want to go down that path, Windows Tablet probably is the only real option… That said, it's been awhile since I touched an iPad (I do have one, I just don't use it).

I used to have a Windows Tablet (Surface Pro 3), but throttling made it very hard for me to really use it like a tablet or a laptop. It wasn't a Intel Core M model, so it might be significantly different with those.

I too would recommend the tab s7. It supports dex, a Windows desktop like interface so when you hook it up to a monitor with keyboard and mouse it’s very usable to get some light work done.

    No, you're looking for a tablet…

Sounds like Android is the favourite choice, and call out iPad in passive aggressive manner.
