Dual sim phones

I need a dual sim phone. I have a LG G7 that's starting to fail. Doesn't seem to be much in terms of local stock for dual sim.

Do you have any recommendations? My main problem with g7 is the reception seems poor. Th 4g data (boost network) is quite bad, I seem to get 1 bar less than a nearby Samsung galaxy. I drop to h mode often. I get nothing in shopping centres sometimes.

With wifi I have a tp link deco mesh. Somehow the Wi-Fi still drops up when I walk around the house. Basically it seems to cut off and then join the Wi-Fi again.

Voice calls there is also a lot of time when I can't hear the other person very well. Obviously I can't compare this with other phones at the same time.

To be fair this phone has been dropped a few times.

Anyway not sure if brands have differences with reception. I'm on Boost & Aldi, for I want all the bands I can't remember what's missing from int. models. I want local because I want 2yr warranty as I've had bricked phones after 1yr w/o doing any mods etc.

Budget around 700. I mean each time I go up 1-200 so realistically maybe up to 900. I usually get last years models.

Want to stay with android atm. Would LOVE if I could record calls. I can't root since I use square payments. I can't record calls since android 5.
I don't game etc at all.

I'm used to quad HD screens, so don't want to drop down to FHD res.

I don't want a bigger screen, can hardly use this 6.1" with 1 hand as it is. I'd like a flat screen so I can use a glass protector edge to edge.

I don't care about camera, wife has galaxy s20 and does all the photos.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 11 and have a Telstra eSim and Optus physical sim. Was previously juggling separate work and personal phones, so this setup is much easier to deal with.

In your price range, you could look at the iPhone SE (2nd Gen), apparently it supports dual sim.

  • S10 dual sim ?

    • I thought samsung didn't do any dual sim in AU models?

They certainly do. I'm replying to you on my dual SIM A71 I bought from the Australian Samsung store

    Galaxy Note 9

    Samsung A72

    • I'll second the A70 series.

I have the A71 which has served me brilliantly for 12 months now.

Otherwise I can also recommend the Motorola G series - I've had a couple of dual sim models and always liked the almost stock Android experience.

Also, while I've never had a phone with an eSim, I think I'd still get one will 2 physical sim slots. Colleagues of mine have always had dramas for initial setup. Plus the ease of changing is also a benefit - such as for when I've been overseas and used a local sim.

      • THe Samsung A72 certainly looks good, and is $700. I just wondered, looking at gsmarena at AnTuTu & GeekBench stats, the LG G7 actually beats it. Is there something I'm missing? The G7 cost me 600 2 yrs ago.

I'm kinda confused, a 2018 flagship costing then 700 seems to benchmark the same as a current $700 phone - which is now midrange.
After waiting 3 yrs I'd hope the same $ would get a faster phone.

  • S21 is dual sim (1 physical, 1 esim).

    • I had a look into these esims, both of my Sims are minor carriers so I need dual physical SIM

  • I think all new iPhones have dual sim now, with one sim being an esim. Plenty of the older iPhones do too.

I have one, it's the Samsung S9+ DUOS which I got as ex-display unlocked from OzMobiles

    It can have 2 x SIMs or 1 x SIM + 1µSD card.

Moved from MotoG dual to Samsung A71 dual, Samsung is much much better for photos, but as you don't need that, i'd try the MotoG, both of these bought over the counter in Aus. Dual physical SIM gives you more flexibility.

  • The last time I had a dual sim phone (circa 2017) it was a MotoG 4 Plus and it was quite good value for money at the time, not sure how the newer models are but there was nothing wrong with that one. As for recording calls, I don't think the android (or iOS) API allows apps to hook into the speaker, so the only way to record calls (that I'm aware of) is to use a generic sound recorder app and turn on speaker phone. Keep in mind it is illegal to record others without consent generally speaking.

  • Realme C3 is dual sim and pretty good, much cheaper than the others with good specs. Not sure if it does call recording though

Although Huawei phones are a few years old - my P20 Pro is also dual sim and I'm still using it for over 3 years. The most recent one that you can get, that has google play support is the P40 series. Their Mate series phones are also great. I've been using Huawei for over 6 years now with no issues.
