TheGoodGuys Refuse to Provide Promotional Store Credit

I took advantage of this offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/614430 which included a $100 store credit. (TGG Online Click and Collect only Bonus Small Appliances Credit ($100 for $500+)).

The credit never arrived, so I sent them a message via the website asking where it was.

This was the reply:
Hi, Thanks for your enquiry. We have looked in to this and our records show that you had opted out from receiving marketing materials. Unfortunately as per the T&Cs for the promotion, this means that you are not eligible to receive a credit. Apologies for any disappointment.

Knowing well that this was a condition as outlined in the comments, I wouldn't have selected to opt out.

This is a screenshot of my inbox - doesn't look like I opted out:

Has this happened to anyone else or has anyone got any advice?

Actual advice would be to try again and hope you get another person on the chat line.

Failing that, just threaten with ACCC or ask to speak with manager. Need to get your Karen on to get anywhere these days…

Yep, show them the screenshot of your inbox that you've got here.

Unless you unticked the "Receive Promotional Material" box at the bottom of this particular promotion, then you might screwed - but they should still warn you re the promotion rather than just take it off you.

  • Depends on how they advertised it. You can't really have it in 100pt font then t&c buried in 9pt somewhere on page 50.

    • but sadly they can… :)

      • No they can't. Generally any onerous conditions must be the same high and font as the main offer as it is misleading. Offers must be made in good faith. More so with contracts. Hiding conditions by changing font, colour, line type or font size is heavily frond upon by magistrates when these things are challenged .

Wow, what an idiotic reason for not giving you the credit. Seems typical of TGG these days. Everything is fine until you need help. Their customer service has really plummeted.

    • They are owned by JB HiFi. I think they are on the way out. Just like Target is getting phased out.

  • Its okay, i got them back good with the afterpay 15% off code. After i bought a 2.5kw split system for $430, they removed all the other split system ads down until it expired.

  • This reminds me, I bought an item with Concierge in February and haven't received any communication about it or the $20 credits…

Hi everyone - after threats of ACCC, they have come to the party and provided a $100 credit.
