Gaming PC Purchase Recommendations (~ $2500)

Hello my friends,

Recently moved to Australia so I'm looking to get a proper gaming desktop setup over here. I've searched the forum but I just can't to seem to find anything that's up to date with what I'm looking for and my own knowledge is lacking.

My budget is around $2500.
I'm happy with both pre-builds or seperate parts, whichever one is the best option right now.
I already own two SSDs, one of them with Windows 10 on it which I believe I can reinstall on new hardware. So if buying seperate parts is better I should not need an OS nor storage as I have enough already.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated as this has given me headaches for weeks trying to look for a good fit!

Also, if anyone has suggestions for some decent monitors(24-27") I'm looking to buy that too.

Thank you!

Techfast probably has some of the best per-build deals out there given GPU scalping these days. Unlike the Dell G5 I think, nothing they use is proprietary so easy swap and upgrade. It is perhaps your best option if their deal is still on.

If you are looking for specific form factors like I was, you'll have to build it yourself. I've done one a couple months ago, had to go with Intel though given the AMD's low stock. That said, the stock and price of 5600X has been improved significantly so that's a start. GPU prices, on the other hand, would make DIY gaming gigs very costly at the moment.

I against buying from techfast personally,

You will get a good deal on CPU/GPU, and you will get bottom of the barrel everything else, include:

cooler(they use stock cooler when there is one, they use cheapest 120mm watercooler when there isn't a cooler, 120mm watercooler perform worse than most of the tower coolers)
480GB no brand ssd (likely Crucial BX500, Kingston A400, wd green those kind of garbage)
PSU (explosive Gigabyte, check gamers nexus review)
RAM has got no spec, it does say 3200, but it could be 3200c22 JEDEC bin.
Motherboard, I can see they use low end b550m gigabyte across almost all their AMD build.

If you could shop around yourself you probably better do it, with the market condition going on right now you are going to spend a bit more on parts, but at least you are getting reliable stuff hand picked by yourself or someone knowledgeable.

    My recommendation:
AMD 5600x (deals constantly posted here in OzB)
4 heat pipe 120mm FAN cool, like Deepcool gammax 400, Coolermaster 212, etc.
MSI B550m Mortar or ASUS B550(m) TUF, or MSI B550 Tomahawk (if you want to go cheap then Asrock B550m Pro4, still enough power delivery)
2*8G 3200 c16 in Kingston/GSkill, if you want to get better stuff, then go 3600, c17 or lower.
    Samsung 970 Evo Plus/ WD SN550/Crucial MX500/Samsung 860 EVO/870 EVO
6700XT GPU with 3 fan from any brand(you can see them available from most shops now)
650w bronze/gold PSU at least, 750w to be safe for later.
Mesh panel case, like Phantek P350A, Silverstone FARA R1 etc. Anything Mesh.
AX3000 WiFi/Bluetooth, I see MSY sell their own brand for $49, you will end up getting intel ax200 chipset anyway so brand won't matter.

anything you not sure leave me a comment.

    • Thanks a lot, appreciate it!

  • My budget is around $2500.

Worst time to build a new gaming rig, ever. With GPU prices being so high, that'll take up most of your budget. If insist on doing it now, be aware that it'll cost you more now than it will in a year or so.

    • This time last year you'd probably say the same thing.

The best time to purchase a GPU was yesterday, the second best time is today.

      • TheBird is kind of right though.

The situation really is a bit unusual at the moment. People are complaining that cards the bought 12 months ago are more expensive in today's market.

    • Thank you for your help. If you want to lend me yours while I wait for prices to drop I am okay with that too! Otherwise, I don't really have much of a choice.

      • 6700xt are meant to have a MSRP of around AU$750 ish, if there wasn't shortage you'd expect aftermarket model to be around 850~900 range, cheapest I can see is Umart SA selling for $1199 for the sapphire nitros, that's about $300 bubble there…. Consider it's a $2500 build, $300 isn't too bad. You save a bit of cost here and there and you should be fine in the end.

  • Budget is one thing, but not a terribly useful benchmark in these days of inflated GPU prices. What games do you play and what are your actual requirements (resolution, frame rates etc)? If you are happy with 1440p then why spend more? If you really want 4k gaming, then sure go up to 2.5k

I built a system recently but couldn't beat some of the prebuilts from smaller stores. Kind of frustrating! At least everything was highish end in quality (if not specs!). Whether or not that matters I'll never know.

Anyway, I found this quite useful as a very high level benchmark to try to understand the relative speeds of GPUs compared to flagship.

And then there's this deal which seems good:

which was recently posted by a user in another thread

    • Yeah, I don't really play any kind of demanding games but I'd like to know I could at least try some of the newer games on the market.
And yeah, looking to get something that's at least decent so I don't have to worry about upgrading for quite some time.
      Thanks for your help!

      • My tip would be search youtube videos for graphics card reviews on the games that you're curious about, and see how the GPUs perform with the games you're interested in. And then look out for a prebuilt from a decent smaller builder that features the card that you'd like, and maybe a little bit extra. Microsoft Flight Sim is a whole lot more demanding than Fortnite, but who cares if all you want to do is play Fortnite?

At the moment, 1440p 144hz+ refresh rate at high settings seems to be the affordable/attainable sweet spot.

I built myself a PC that was capable of 1080P at ultra settings and thought I'd be happy with that. Wasn't even that interested in a lot of games……..but shortly afterwards I upgraded to a 1440p monitor and wishing I'd gone a bit higher spec on the GPU.
