New Laptop - Budget $1k

Hello fellow OzBargainers,

I'm in the market for a new laptop as I'm going back to school. My current laptop is a MacBook Pro from 2012 and it's super slow now.

I will be using this laptop to mainly do assignments this year, however I need something good enough to edit movies that I film on my gopro at 1080p and likely 4k in the future. Portability is important as this will travel with me when we're allowed to go overseas again, and I do want to have the option to Netflix and chill when camping. I also cycle most places. I don't game at all. I don't want anything by Apple anymore as I'm no longer in the ecosystem.

Budget is about $1k

Bonus question: Can you claim a laptop as a tax deductible for school? (the course is work related, however I chose to do the course on my own accord)

    Lenovo Slim 7i - Still in stock in some places but YMMV.

    Super lightweight so it will be good when you're on the move. IPS display with a higher than normal resolution. Only 256GB but consider a 1TB external drive aren't too expensive if you need more space.
