Plant Based Nuggets Back at ALDI - $4.49

Here's one for all our Vegan friends at OzB (as well as their friends that are Vegan).

The plant based Nuggets that they had last year are back in the Freezer at Aldi.

No doubt far cheaper than the Colesworth alternative.

Ironically Plant Collective who make it are part of Inghams.

So if you have any Vegan friends coming over (Outside Sydney ATM), having a party with Vegans etc, then grab a pack. I counted 14 in the one I purchased, and it tastes the same as last year.

I personally find these taste better than Chicken Nuggets available from most takeaway outlets. Maccas, KFC, HJ's.

Yes, I am primarily a meat eater and Chicken is what I consume the most.

Warning contains Gluten. No mention of Halal though. ;)

PS Looking forward to the witty comments.

I just want nugs, that taste like real nugs.

They taste pretty good, and I have given them to people unaware it was plant based. They didn't notice, and asked where they came from.

And yet when people find out what I put in my "vegetarian" hamburgers they get upset.

    • because "real" nuggets are usually just a mash up with food stuffs :D.

14-16 mins in an Oven on the pack at 200 degrees C

I would put them in the AirFryer for 10 mins for 180-200.

Deep Fryer for 5 mins at 170?

Cheers! No air fryer so will go the oven route.

Note: oven at first then grill for the last 2-3 mins has given me some epic outcomes.

What are the possible methods to cook and which is the nicest?

In an air fryer with a rock for 10 minutes.

Then throw the nuggets away and eat the rock.

  • Do they taste more like chicken than chicken nuggets?

    • I think they taste more like it than some of the ones out there. :)
I would give them 4 1/2 compared to a lot of the Vegan products out there.
The Rebel whopper wasn't too bad, but the patty could be a bit dry.

  • Should be halal for anyone wondering, unless it has some alcoholic substance. Even then, it is up-to the individual's interpretation of Islamic Laws pertaining to the quantity of alcohol in food. As far as majority is concerned, if it has some alcohol in it, it is not halal.

  • No mention of Halal though

Basically all vegetarian / vegan food is Halal. No animals got slaughtered, therefore no need to kill it in a religious correct way.

    • +1

      religious correct

      You spelt barbaric incorrectly.

    • Of course, I knew that. Just creating banter. ;)

  • Ruffie plant based frozen meals are also half price at Woolies this week if anyone is interested https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/search/products?searchTer… also a potential option if you are vegan or have vegan friends. I was going to buy a couple to try but forgot, sodium content was a little high for my preferences anyway.
