Or do I need to trudge down to the bank and exchange for some cash?
I’m with Suncorp if that matters
I’m hopefully flying out Saturday if Queensland bubble doesn’t shut due to recent covid cases

Thanks man, I’m pretty stupid but I just asked suncorp chat and they sent me this. It’s on the website too.
“ Can I use my Visa debit or credit card overseas?
You can use your card anywhere you see the Visa Symbol, including ATMs and merchant terminals. When using your card overseas or online you may be charged a foreign currency conversion fee. This will depend on the type of Suncorp deposit account you have. For Everyday Options and Everyday Essentials Account holders with a Visa Debit Card there are no Foreign Currency Conversion Fees.”
Yeah, you can use it, but Suncorp may charged an additional extra on top of each purchase.
ING have a very good VISA debit card that has no overseas charges at all!
I have used this when overseas travel was still a thing and it was great
(There are some small caveats like you need to make 5+ card purchases a month - but worth checking out if it suits you)
Oh thanks for the heads up, have a lot of travel for work planned so that ING account could be clutch.
I’ll defs check each purchase early to see if Suncorp rates are shit or they charging hidden costs, my normal everyday account shouldn’t have extra fees, just got to leave business card at home
@altiarlio: Yeah even going to the ATM in Japan and withdrawing cash like a local without any fees felt pretty awesome!
yes, ensure your bank has enabled international transactions
also the bubble has been closed.
You just scared the shit out of me. I’m in Queensland and it’s doesn’t look closed just yet.
ohh sorry i was thinking you were in sydney.
Haha all good mate, heart just dropped a little but always expecting the worse atm given how things have been over the last year.
Think we will be happy and relaxed once we are back and no quarantine considering everything can change instantly
I'm with ING and it was all good when I went two years ago. I didn't need to exchange money at all as tap and go was just about everywhere on the south island.
Is this outdated? Or is Suncorp bank lying or too small?
Sorry just saw the eftpos fee
Visa/Mastercard = world wide.
Just ensure you choose credit at EFTPOS terminals.
I am an ANZ Customer and I went to one of their ATMs and they didn't charge me a foreign ATM fee or any foreign transaction fee, also the NZ dollars I got out were at an OK foreign rate
