Car Service Mechanic Sydney CBD

G'day Ozbargainers,

I'm horrible when it comes to cars so your help is much appreciated.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for car servicing in the Sydney CBD area?

I called one mechanic up and they quoted me $340 for a Mazda 3 2012 year. Thats quite a big jump from my previous mechanic who charged me $240 in the inner west area.

Thank you all.

  • Service based on km?

Could be bigger service, labour, part$.

Go see how many km and report back.

    • my odo is 95,000km

      its $340 plus parts

usually a major service from the stealership (100,000km) goes for around $700-1000.

what you got quoted ain't so bad. check your owners manual and see what is due for your next service… probably spark plugs will be included (plugs are usually $20-30 each - in your case 4 cylinder will be 4 plugs.)

        • Thank you

  • Whereabouts in the CBD?

You live and work in the area?

    • Townhall / Central area

      yes

You might be able to get a mobile mechanic. Alternatively, drive out of the CBD. Obviously not convenient though.

    • Thanks alot for this, they quoted me a different price when I called up

$256 was around the price range I was expecting.

  • Got my car back today and had to spend $1185

    $295 for service
$140 to replace Air filter and cabin pollen filter
$750 for front brake pads and rotor

Does that sound right to you guys? The $750 for front brake pads and rotor raise my eye brow. When I was quoted, I thought I was getting both front and rear pads for rotor for $750 which looks to be a reasonable deal. Then when I checked the final work done, they only replaced the front brake pads and rotor

    • $750 for front brake pads and rotor for a Mazda 3?? Was it a whole new axle? Or carbon ceramics?

I think you got ripped off.

      • $750 for front brake pads and rotor for a Mazda 3?? YES

Was it a whole new axle? Or carbon ceramics? I don't know what these are?

They also recommended me to change my all 4 tyres which I declined

        • I'll let one of the many mechanics here respond definitively but I believe it should be ~$200 for parts and one or maybe two hours labour max. If it's just bog standard stuff and nothing special or extra…

          • @Hybroid: Labour was charged @ $150 for 2 hours.

            • @Homr: Huge markup on the parts even when talking about retail…nevermind trade price.
