Series 1 are still being sold? Sheesh

    • Pretty limited watchOS support for the Apple watch 1 these days. Do not recommend buying unless you know what you are doing.

      • +6

For that price it's a buy and keep it in a sealed boxed as part of 'collectible tech'.

Get 1 of anything popular tends to be worth quite a bit (look at the price of first get iPods)

        • +5

Apple started at 0 for the Apple Watch, retrospectively.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I had the 0, the battery swelled up to about twice the thickness of the watch body so I had to take it in and get it replaced by a 1 :'(

            • @jarrod: Happened with mine too, they switched it out for another series 0 under warranty though, which is still going strong being used by a relative, so I guess it was a bad batch early on.

            • @jarrod: same here. Both lasted for about 2 years. I now have a series 5. Love it.

    Apple Watch Series1/2/3/4 Fr $131

    How much in AUD ?

    • From

      • +1

        From Congo?

    • +7

Gotta love how people save a tenth of a second of their lives by not bothering about aesthetics and by using gross shortcuts like this.

      • You have got to

I’ll hit myself on the way out.

        • Yeah, but that's KINDA thing by now, right?

I remember seeing Fr (capitalised like this) for the first time and the only thing that came to my mind was the Swiss frank. Esp. it was a deal on some flights.

      • lol ikr

No wonder why your comment count is so high because of comments like this

      • +6

Why are you so interested in comment counts?

Have you worked out a way to monetize them?

This comment was brought to you by Coca Cola.

      • is high because you are enabling

        and me

  • Not available for delivery

  • Where is the Series 2 for $163, can only see $183? Edit: Nvm, title was updated to reflect $183

  • +2

Amazed they still have stock of 6+ year old 1st gen Apple Watches

    • +11

      Might be a fossil!

      • +2

No wonder Fossil smart watch's are shit!

    • The series 1 & 2 will both be 5 years old in Sept. But yes.

  • I suppose it’s another way informing the next gen is coming soon?

    • +1

Historically, Apple have released a new version around September each year. So you can probably expect the next gen coming around then this year.

    • its coming every year regardless. this is more of a mass clearance

  • +4

Series 1 and Series 2 can be used as paper weight if you don't mind the price tag.

    • Series 3 are barely better, I can't even update mine anymore. Storage size is too small

    • too light for paper weight. but it makes a fun fidget spinner when you take off the belts and spin it on the charger

    • +1

Incorrect, I am happily using my series 2 and still waiting for decent reason to upgrade.
      Maybe the next release?

  • Called JB Hifi Melbourne CBD. Apparently Series III is OOS nationwide.

  • -2

Apple could sell ice to Eskimos, amazing.

    • +1

it will come with stickers though.

    • +1

And an iTray for holding that ice 😂😂

      • +4

        sold separately

        • For $79.95. Charging cable sold separately.

    • That’s a smart business!

  • What's the sweet spot re: price and age?

    • +3

      Don't go below a series 3.

      • +7

I wouldn’t even go 3 to be honest. It’s unusable currently with updates.

        • +2

What issues are you having? Mine still seems fine?

I agree that series 4 would be a good choice though, especially if you want the smaller size as the smaller watch in series 3 and below could do with the extra space in some poorly tested apps.

All of them work ok though, I gave my old series 0 to someone that is still using it fine, though I wouldn't recommend less than the 3. So far the only things that have tempted me to upgrade are 4 (bigger screen - not a huge deal though IMO), 5 (always on display - not that huge of a deal for me though). 6 - U1 chip has potential for the future, possibly going to be a killer feature if they integrate it with smart locks.

Otherwise they seem kind of pointless upgrades for me. 3 is still plenty fast and the battery is still going strong. I do like the seemingly extreme durability of the sapphire glass on the stainless models, but the cellular functionality was a huge let down due to how it's priced to use it in Australia. Not only is it at least $5 more a month, you actually need to spend more like $30-40 a month more to go direct with one of the big telcos on post-paid just to get the option to pay more for it. Unless you're a big runner who doesn't like carrying a phone on workouts it's not worth it IMO.

          • @[Deactivated]: Try dropping the watch with the sapphire glass and see just how extreme that durability really is. My wife has done it…not so extreme…not so pleased.

            • @Orrelljet: I’ve dropped it a lot but I guess not from above waist height onto concrete (off a desk onto the floor etc though)… also banged it fairly forcefully into metal railings / kept with keys in a bag etc. still looks like new, same went for the series 0 when that was retired. Guess I’m not the ultimate destroyer of electronics though….

      • +4

Would say Series 4 at the very least.
It’s a pain to even do a software update on the GPS only S3 models, having to restore the watch just to do a software update is ridiculous.

        • Did not realise / forgot long ago my cellular one had more storage. Yeah, sounds like a crap experience, good to know the cellular option I stopped using within months didn't count for nothing.

That said you don't have to update them, apparently even the series 0 still works even if you won't be able to run the latest versions of the latest apps I guess.

    • +3

I’ve got a 4 which is still going strong. Daily use and honestly can’t fault it. EKG just got approved with the latest update as well so it’s well worth it IMO

  • is this is good deal, and what are the regular prices for Series 3 & 4

  • $300 for a series 1 lol

    Series 4 recommended

series 3 usability is alright but has less storage and might not get new watchOS next year

    • +5

      300? It's $131 tho?

  • 👍

  • +1

If you haven't yet, you can use latitude pay for an extra $25 off (first time LP users only)

  • +2

I will definitely get series 1s if have stock, wait another few years then resell them for collectors lol

  • Does any particular version have better battery life than others?

    • Don't think there much change in battery capacity. Newer models just became more battery efficient. You'll be charging at bedtime anyway you go…

      • thanks

  • +3

Series 1 still keeps time from a net time server, more accurate than any manual/automatic/analog watch.
supports the weather app, calendar, reminders, timer, & stopwatch better than any manual/automatic/analog watch. and more.

    • Sure, but at that point you're just better off getting a used model of a higher series

    • i should also add, a new series 1 still supports notifications from apps, imessage, and the killer app; apple pay.
$131 seems like a steal compared to some other random time, and maybe date, only watch, some of which cost a fortune.

    • and make and receive phone calls, like Dick Tracey.
perfect for a 12yo, or a 45yo that doesnt need to spend 4x-5x more for ECG, or cellular…

  • They actually put their prices up, series 6 was $50 cheaper yesterday

  • if you still have the series 1 in real gold, you are holding a collectable item :) (cost $20K back then anyway)

    • +3

Series 1 didn't come in gold, that was series 0 only.

    • Yes until the battery in it cease earlier than ice in hot coffee. Rolex is collectible, electronics are made to be recycled.

  • I tried looking up videos on YouTube with not much success but how are these when paired with Android phones? Wonder if anyone here has an Apple Watch connected to an Android phone.

I remember there was only some feature compatibility but wonder what real world experiences are like. If it's bad, I might go for a Galaxy Watch again.

    • +1

you can't pair Apple Watches with Adroid, only with iPhone

  • So if I got the Series 3 cellular, I can shove a SIM in it and make calls / texts and shit? Entirely on it's own I mean, like no phone involved, no other device, no bollocks, just a SIM in the watch and I'm set? I've found myself missing my old QW09 a bit lately and wouldn't mind a smart watch again, but not as an add on.

    • From memory these were eSIM and you'd still need an iPhone to activate it and probably configure the number share to it.

    • No, despite Apple building 99% of the support for them to not rely on an iPhone, they're still 100% tethered to an iPhone. You just don't need to take the iPhone with you on your run. And the cellular feature is only supported as an eSim with the same number as your existing iPhone number and then only on the big three telco's post-paid plans at an extra charge. Basically you need an iPhone with a sim somewhere and really really want to spend a lot of extra money to leave your phone at home.

There's no sim slot in the watch, it's an eSim only which clones your iPhone's number.

      • It was late and I was tired, I'm glad I didn't just pull the pin and go for it without Googling, cheers guys.

Bugger the QW09 goes for more or less exactly what I paid for it in 2016/17 bc that thing was a (profanity) beast. I'd feel dumb buying it again when I had the DZ09 as well both of which have the same batteries, meaning if I bought it now but kept those batteries at least I could have left a charged spare one in the drawers at the office or something. Might get one of those fancy 2 inch massive screen ones I'm seeing around for a couple hundred. About the same price as an Apple Watch but at least it's full featured phone too.

      • "You just don't need to take the iPhone with you on your run"
Does it still map/track your run & various health measures using gps without your phone?

  • -1

    Why page doesn’t load?

  • The series 6 was such a disappointment, wow!

  • link seems broken, website search prices much higher

  • Cant seem to find deal expiry date, can someone please enlighten? Thanks

  • Can anyone suggest a 4G smartwatch with GPS that has a full phone/text function which works alone, and doesn’t depend on the main phone like Apple watch? My grade 7 son wants to have Apple watch but it won’t be a standalone device. Thanks.
