Always been interested in trying. Going to throw some in with my overnight oats/protein powder.

Thanks, I got 25% off at checkout but that brings it down from $10.99 to $8.24. $7.14 would have been 35% off.

Just be careful, Amazon was defaulting to the subscription option for me rather than a one-off purchase, so don't accidentally sign up to ongoing deliveries of this if you don't actually want it.

That's the point. S&S for the additional discount then cancel afterwards.

      • This.

        And yes, 25% off in cart + 10% off for S&S ≈ 35%.

      • Fair point. I have a bad habit of forgetting to cancel this sort of stuff, so I'm happy to wear my $1.10 surcharge for being a poor OzBargainer. It's still half the price of the supermarkets.

Wait, you can eat this stuff? https://www.chia.com/

Are these the reason why there's no HDD sales on this year's Prime day?

    • +1

Probably. Chia netspace has exploded to the point where its not at all viable for people to keep buying hard drives and still make any kind of profit (personally I think this is a good thing). Expect to see lots of hard drive deals in the coming months both secondhand and brand new, as the anticipated growth of Chia in a consumer market pretty much evaporates.

      • +1

Chia netspace growth has slowed, but it's still growing.

        https://www.chiaexplorer.com/charts/netspace?period=3m

There are probably millions of people out there with a terabyte of free space thinking 'eh, why not?' It certainly doesn't make any economic sense to buy a hard drive for Chia.

        https://chiacalculator.com/

Right now a 4Tb (3.6 usable) for $95 will yield around $11 per month in Chia. So you have to run that hard drive (and the PC it's connected to) for almost 9 months just to get the purchase price back. And that's ignoring any power costs, and also that netspace will almost always grow, stretching that 9 months into many years.

        • I guess I'm basing it on sentiment really. Have you seen any of Seth Estrada's videos? They are excellent for a balanced view on Chia. It was marketed as "farm your spare hard drive space" which of course meant people bought up all the spare space when the coin opened at $1600 per :) The price has since tanked and people realise they cannot compete with that giant netspace competition. Really, this crypto was only ever intended for datacentre size spare capacity - not little people like me with a 4tb drive.

I highly doubt that you could earn $11 a month with 4tb solo farming. Maybe with pools but there aren't any (official, non sketchy) ones yet - the pool protocol is not yet developed. The chia calculator has been proven over and over again that it is just plain wrong. But don't take my word for it - Seth covers it in this video.

      • I honestly thought there would be HDD Prime deals given the crypto crash and China ban. Guess supply hasn't caught up yet.

Really need one since a drive of mine died last week :(

  • Good price.
