For everyone who hasn't jumped on this in previous deals and is struggling to find anything worth getting in this Prime day this far, consider this.

On a scale of value determined by Philosophical Penguins Classics texts, this costs less than a hardcover copy of Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil, but more than the paperback edition of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. Coincidentally, Marcus was a Roman Emperor just like the one in Civilisation VI!

    ipad version or this?

    • +12

Personally I'm waiting for the Wear OS version…

      • +6

I'm waiting for the brain chip implant version so I can play it when I dream.

        • +4

I think I pretty much do that already.

    • I use my ipad more/bring it with me to more places. So Ipad version for me.

  • Does it support cross platform multiplayer?

    • I don’t think so, but there’s is cross platform save game transfers for Switch and Steam I believe.

  • Does this work on switch lite?

    • +2

      Yes

    • Yes and they did a good job with the UI, but be prepared for the smaller screen experience. Definitely designed with the standard or docked play in mind.

  • +13

This just made me realise I still haven't opened mine from the last $15 Amazon US deal from last year :/

    • +8

buy now think later mate, the ozb way

    • +1

      A true Ozbargainer!

    • +3

buy now, collect dust all year long

    • +1

Almost jumped on it, but then saw your comment haha

    • I have the last of us 1 & 2, god of war, witcher 3 and horizen zero dawn sitting in my drawer for one to two years now lol

  • is there such thing as region lock on switch games?

    • +1

      I don't think so

    • Not on the actual physical game.

Downloadable codes can be region locked to certain stores, and also the redemption of Nintendo points can be locked to certain regions stores.

    • -2

No but it has been pointed out before that you won't be able to get the DLC from the eshop with an Australian account.

      • +2

I believe it depends on the game. I'm sure I've read its a non issue for some games, where its a problem for others. I don't know where Civ VI sits.

        • +3

This. Everyone keeps spreading the rumour that DLC is region locked, but it broadly isn't the case. There are some exceptions where this is true (Splatoon 2 for example), but every single other game I've personally tried (Dead Cells, Smash Bros, Guacamelee 2, Mutant Football League, etc) have all worked fine with differing region DLC to game

  • Got one. Thanks.

  • +1

wouldn't this strategy based game difficult to play on the Switch

    • In the same way someone would find driving a manual difficult if their only experience is with automatics

    • -1

Nah its very slow paced, takes 15 minutes for a single turn and its turn based

      • +1

Is that because of the switch lack of power or, couldn’t imagine end game is fun on the switch with any map bigger than small

  • Guys, do you get a surcharge if you use say a CBA credit card because it's Amazon US?

    • +1

      nope :)

    • +2

Nope, because you are buying it from the AU store.

  • when i checked its price this early morning, it was still over $20.

    bought! :)

  • +1

Did they ever implement hotseat mode? If it has that mode, I'd pick it up.

  • +4

I don't recommend Switch version. I have thousands of hours on PC and bought Switch version and it runs very slow, particularly late game, no addon support and cumbersome controls. Avoid.

    • +3

In the contrary, I actually now play Civ6 (and GS expansion) on Switch more compared to PC, as I can play it anywhere (couch, train, anywhere that you have a few minutes) rather than just at home in front of a computer. Also you can use the cloud save feature to play your PC saves on the go and vice versa. It may run slower (compare to pc) late game but if you limit your map size it's still very playable. Control is different to pc, and need getting use to, but once you are familiar I found it to be quicker thru turns than using a mouse and KB.

    • I found the controls ok but definitely bogs down on the larger map sizes and/or lots of civs in late game. If you keep the map size and civ numbers down though it usually works fine

  • +2

To think I bought this at $60 when it released, and no, I still haven't played it yet :(

    • +7

Damn, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but buying this at $60 ain't 1

    • +16

If it makes you feel better…I bought Assasins Creed Black Flag collectors edition for $130 on the first day the Xbox One was released…and still haven't played it..
Re-bought it for the Switch and… still haven't played it.
I think as an adult we have the childhood nostalgia of gaming but lack the time required.

      • +1

So true..it's like a combination of desire for gaming+fomo+procrastination and this cycle repeats again and again..

      • +1

Damn, you missed out on the companion app experience. Kenway's Fleet was awesome. They've since shut down the servers.

  • Can anyone confirm if AustraliaN ESHOP DLC works with this version? Or would it require us eshop dlc?

  • Anyone know if JB price matches prime deals(Standard, non-lightning ones)?

    • This isn't Australian stock so it's unlikely

      • Ah I was actually looking at RDR2(which is by Amazon AU) as well. Hmm.

    • +1

I got Monster hunter rise ($49) and BOTW ($68) from JB yesterday as they price matched Amazon

  • civ 5 is better lol

  • Just a word of warning, the performance drops to almost unplayable as you explore most of the map.
I would not recommend playing this game on the switch even it was free.

    • +6

"No Gimli, I would not play Civ VI on the Switch unless I had no other choice."

  • Tempted to purchase for future EB Games trade deals, Switch games seem to hold their value and usually be eligible
