Guidance Please: Robo Vacuum or Stick Vacuum?

Hello OzBargain Community,

Just trying to decide on a new vacuum for the house.

Do I put my money in a robot vacuum…have been looking at the Roborock S5Max…currently can be had for $750-$799….or do I go and buy a decent stick vacuum???

House is mostly floorboards with rugs in bedrooms, passageway, and lounge. We hate doing the vacuuming and currently use a standard heavy, plug in the wall Dyson.

No idea which way to go!!

Thoughts?

  • With a working plug in Dyson already get the robot.

Stick is great for small stuff or getting the corners that the robot can’t reach in to, you might decide it beats the Dyson down the track. But with the robot doing the house daily you probably won’t use a stick or the plug in more than once a fortnight.

  • I feel that a stick is more versatile, more reliable and can be used in more places.
I would even be tempted to get a premium Chinese or Aldi stick.
Something with a decent "moving-head", which ever way you go.

Don't spend hundreds of dollars unless it is a Miele…in the words of a wise small animal "simples". (And then I think the barrels Miele make are excellent).
In terms of price and ability I think this range (so choose according to your needs) this is a best buy and reviews consistently at the top and is bagless.
Think ebay or catch or whoever has the best deal.

  • Robot as the vacuuming will get done more often. Although it may miss hard to reach spots behind things and edges, the main areas dirt and dust is accumulating will remain clean and you can just pull your Dyson out occasionally for those hard to reach spots which won't take long.

It may be annoying to get your Dyson out for all those hard to reach spots in different rooms so a long term solution is to get a stick vacuum to go with your robot. Doesn't need to be too powerful or expensive as long as it's used frequently. I'm happy with my Xiaomi 1st Gen Robot and Samsung Jet 70 as the vacuuming gets done a lot more frequently than when it was just the plug in the wall Dyson.

  • +1

    Get both.

Get a decent robo vac, worth the money as your scheduled clean.

Have a look at reviews of sticks sold by Kmart, Target for about $100 to $150 and you are laughing. You can always return the stick no dramas any issues.

Don't bother with Dyson's or anything fancy, appreciate not everyones experience but for me they have been a waste of coin in comparison and they generally end up in the bin. Sell the Dyson to fund the above.

  • Both. They do different things.
