Recommendations for Fish Finder GPS Combo - Budget $800

Just bought a boat and was hoping someone could recommend a fish finder for around $500-$800? A friend recommended the Lowrance Hook 12 but I think they’ve been discontinued…

Was thinking this? Lowrance Hook Reveal 7X GPS Fish Finder with Triple Shot Transducer $649

  • The only thing missing is it seems you cant upload marine charts

Another option if you are short for cash is to use a mobile phones gps to get you to the location/markers and buy just a dedicated fish finder to locate the structure/dropoffs
A mobile phone is fairly accurate and you have a variety of maps/charts/apps to choose from

Try reading a few reviews just before you buy otherwise it seems ok for the price as these things are not cheap.

    • I was thinking that but I want my phone as a backup, not a primary.

By uploading marine charts you mean other people’s plots and spots??

        A couple of popular ones
        https://www.navionics.com/aus/
        https://www.c-map.com/en-au/home/
These have depth, ports, estuary, channels other sea markings on the map and they are very clear by going android you might even get them free.
Nothing wrong with the standard ones installed in the one you linked you just get more options going the other way

By the way your primary is your boats magnetic compass try and learn how to use it you might have to use it one day and it could save you

  • +1

You might even be able to put other charts on it by the look of it
    https://www.lowrance.com/en-au/lowrance/type/fishfinders-cha…

Its sold gps only or with Aus/NZ map and cmap list lowrance https://www.c-map.com/en-au/all-charts/

Just do your homework first to make sure, ask bcf if it comes with maps or lowance what can be installed or cmap if they sell maps for that mode of chartplotter/gps/finder
Its very vague with what is mentioned

    • Will hit them up tomorrow

    • Had no maps

      Went with this instead

      Maps included

Glad you did some homework and got clarification on that other model. It was very vague and confusing going by the web pages, it pays to do a little research sometimes to get what you want not what you think you want
If you install it yourself use some silicon on the screws that hold the transducer to the boat

        Happy fishing

      • You've made a good choice. Garmin is much better than Lowrance - I've got two, a 95SV and a 105SV on my boat with Panoptix LiveScope, one at the console and another up front near the trolling motor. It's so detailed you can see the fishe's fins on the scope and watch your bait dangle in front of them - it's almost an unfair advantage.
The Garmins are top notch for charts and navigation too.

        • Thanks for the vote in confidence. Any suggestions on where to download spots??

          • @bemybubble: I downloaded other peoples depth soundings of inland lakes from Garmin's web site as they only come with coastal waterway soundings on the g3 standard maps. As for way points with good fishing spots - good luck - most blokes won't share their best spots even with good mates…
