Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB/ Galaxy Z Flip 256GB $0, Telstra $99/M 150GB 12M Plan (New & Port-in Customers) in-Store @ JB Hi-Fi

770

Similar to previous deals.

The sales assistant said its basically a $1100 $1250 discount on the S21 range as long as you sign up for the Telstra $99/m deal. It extends to the S21+ and S21 Ultra, including both 128 and 256GB configurations, you pay the difference.

EDIT: According to user Bill789 the discount has been reduced $150 to $1100. I suppose that reflects the $150 drop in advertised price since 3pm yesterday WST. The final cost is still the same but users should consider their own circumstances.

I was following the current iPhone mini deal when I noticed the banner for the S21 here -

Being an existing customer sucks. Don't see any deals around besides the usual plans online.

    • +1

You could always open another "new" account and just cancel your current existing plan (or port the old account to a cheap 12 month plan like Kogan.

Wouldn't be able to port your existing number over for this offer though. Consider if it would be worth having two accounts for one year. These phones are dual sims I believe.

I won't port over to Telstra just to get an S21 for $1,200. Not overly fond of Telstra, and I have only just recharged my Kogan Flex plan for another 12 months $130).

      • +2

You actually can keep your old number… see here

        • That's pretty good going if you can use your existing Telstra number, and just switch plans over then. I thought it was "new" accounts only, as in not any benefit to existing customers unless they opened an additional completely new account. I imagine one is still obligated to pay if under a term contract though.

          • @JediJan: Yes if you have an ETC from your previous Telstra service you will need to pay it. We did that last time for the missus as her ETC was about $300. But we also sold her Pixel to cover that cost.

As far as JB is concerned they are connecting a new service, which is what you need to qualify for the gift card. The deals are usually pretty vague and only mention port ins because not many people would a) have a need for two mobile numbers or b) not have a mobile number in the first place. When you speak to JB you’ll find that new services are also fine.

If you're not on a plan, can't you port out number and port back in?

      • Yes. But you have to be ported out for at least 30 days. Some people have had success not waiting that long, but i personally have had to wait.

Lebara and a few other small providers offer a 30 day pre-paid deal for $5

(to note, you have to be ported off the telstra network entirely, so don't use a provider based on the telstra network)

    • +2

This is why I always port out at the end of my contract ASAP, then just port back in for the next 'good deal'. on my 3rd or 4th iteration this time around

    • +1

I ported over to Optus on the weekend. Will port back in after 30 days on the next deal.

Anyone know if the Z Flip has 5G?

    • +2

There are two models: Z Flip and Z Flip 5G.

I assume this deal is for the non-5G version based on "5G" not being in the banner and the current ~$800 difference in retail price listed at JB.

    • +1

There's a 5G and 4G version, but the ad didn't mention 5G so most likely the 4G model being offered

  • So the most cost effective to buy and return to get a credit voucher would be the most expensive one that is free right, S21 5G? Then use that voucher to buy the iPhone 12 ;-)

    • +1

Can you actually return a free gift and get a credit voucher in the first place?

      • +2

It’s been discussed in the iPhone 12 mini deal that you get a credit to buy the phone so if you return it unused, you get the equivalent credit voucher.

    • +14

Not judging you but I don't think fraud is a bargain, so can't really compare

      • -1

Worst part is that you don't even need to lie for the $200 voucher, just ask the live chat.
I got given one without even asking when I asked for help regarding trading-in.

        • @bestywesty When did you get the $200 voucher? Was trawling old threads and seemed to be in May. Are they still offering?

          • @Ljj1984: Yeah would be in May, wouldn't know if it's still ongoing. Best bet is to just ask the live chat for the voucher and if that promotion is still ongoing, they'll give it hopefully.

            • +1

@bestywesty: Cheers, will give it a try :)

              • @Ljj1984: How did you go? I asked ways to make the new phone cheaper but him wanted the proof of purchase of my s7 and the IMEI. Which I didn't have :(

      • -1

How the f is that fraud? It's a loophole

        • I read your comment to mean that you told Samsung that you would send them your old phone , they gave you $400 off your new phone and then you didn't send them the old phone.

          • -1

@Arigato: The $400 was an extra BONUS, they were gonna give me $305 for an iphone 11.
I never sent the iphone so i got charged the $305 but not the bonus.

            • -1

@nikoris: Oh right, yeah that sounds like fraud if you accepted the bonus knowing that you wouldn't send the iPhone

    • Is that deal still live?

      • -1

yes, but according to ozbargain, it's a 'fraud' ffs

    • Is that $200 voucher is still available? My S10E charging port is playing up

      • +1

My S10e also had a charger and cable problem; maybe an issue with these? Bought new fast charger and cable direct from Samsung, on a recent deal. No problems now.

      • +1

Was working a couple of weeks ago, try support not sales.

    • +2

Not sure what usefulness is in your comments other than boasting you got a good deal?

    • i paid $650 for my S21+ 256 GB lol.

Traded in my XR + $300 trade in discount + $50 voucher.

  • +1

Can you still claim this bonus offer since this is on a Telstra plan? https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/telstra-deals/

  • +2

It's more like a discount of $240 when you buy a phone at full price, because that's how much the plan is worth for me.

  • +1

Can this be done with existing telstra prepaid customers? If not, if I port out to a prepaid plan elsewhere and then port back in, will my number be eligible?

    • Yes.

      • Sorry, is that a yes to the first or 2nd question?

        • +1

          To the second question, sorry.

    • +1

See toshjammi answer earlier in discussion.

Edit: got the answer I'm after. All good

  • Anyone know if they can issue you with a e-sim instead of a physical sim when signing up on such deals?

I have a work SIM card which would be ideal to plug into this to work alongside the new number. (Work won’t convert it to a e-sim).

    • Yes, if the phone support eSim (ex. S21 5G can support physical sim+eSim to make it dual), Jbhifi will issue an eSim instead of physical sim.

      • According to Telstra, eSims don’t support 5G yet.

So if you wanted 5G, you’ll need to put in a physical sim.

        • hmmm…I was not informed about that.
Whats the use of having 5G phone that cant access 5G network :-)

        • From crowdsupport.testra website:

Use a 5G enabled eSIM, then add a second physical SIM.
          - 5G will be enabled on the eSIM. The second physical SIM service will need to be manually configured to enable 5G if desired.

  • +1

Telstra live chat is useless. If you are out of contract and cancel midway through month do they credit the remainder of the month back or the credit is gone like on prepaid?

    • They credit you back.

    • You will just receive a check in the mail for the remainder.

  • Any chance to cancel the plan and pay a big load to get the phone?

  • +2

I'm waiting on the $500 jb gift card bonus with a port-in $69 per month plan. Hoping they will sneak this deal in before 30 June… lol

    • With the above deal, do they give you a phone if some sort mate?

      • I’m not 100% sure if I understand what you are asking - but with the deal that mr_vino89 mentioned - they don’t give a phone.
They just give u a JB gift card which you can use in store. The plans are 12 month contracts just FYI.

Worth doing if you already have a phone and just want a decent sim only plan deal.

    • Same but I may go for one of these overpriced $99 plans in the next day or 2 as I haven’t seen a good GC deal in a long time.

  • +1

Can we still do the trick of switching to "month to month" plan and then port out without paying ETC/penalties?

    • I called JB and apparently you need to have been of Telstra for at least 30 days.

There's comments above from toshjammi saying you call merge your existing number with the new number they give you, but this seems a bit risky to me since you are signing up for the contract

  • +2

    Is it a $1,250 discount? The S21 128GB costs $1,099. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-s21-5g-128…

    • The S21 was about $1250 when I purchased yesterday 3pm. By about 7pm its advertised price on the web was reduced to $1099.

It's still still a $1250 discount if you buy a more expensive phone in the S21 range (as explained to me by the sales assistant).

      • Then can we get S21 256 GB free which is $1199 ?

        • According to user Bill789 the discount has been reduced to$1100. I've edited my original post.

  • +1

    will goodguys match this deal?
    thanks op

  • Has anyone successful get $1250 discount on S21 ultra with the deal ? Couldn't find any reference on JB HIFI website.

    • Anyone?

      • Yep incorrect description, $1100 discount on range. Wouldn't think it would make it 16 hours before that detail was changed.

  • +2

I went to my local JB store this morning, was told the $99/month 12-month plan would give me $1,100 credit towards the purchase of an S21 series phone. The $1,250 credit was a few months ago, not at the moment.

  • +1

Looking to get the S21 ultra, it is currently on sale for 1599 does the $1100 reduce on top of the sale price?

    • +2

yes, I have spoke to one of the JB hifi rep in WA and confirmed $499 upfront will do the deal.

      • Your local store is good, I was just in JB hi-fi Eastland, Vic and the store rep won't let me pay the difference to upgrade, insisted that I have to get the $800 off any phone deal if I want S21 ultra

        • check with other stores, if near to you before signing up for $800 off.

        • I just got the 1100 off the sale price of the ultra 256gb. Was 599 or 499 if you wanted the 128gb. They even had it clearly showing up on their computer system so your guys seem out of the loop.

Oops should have replied one message up. Sorry about that.

  • Is this plan eligible if I hit up the offshore Telstra guys in live chat for $10/month off for new to Telstra number?

    • I too am curious if this is still a thing and what the best way to go about it is?
Do you sign up at JB then later jump in chat to see if they will discount the plan by $10/m?

  • +3

FYI to all. You need to pay the $500 on top of the ETC if you cancel early. Stated on the contract

    • How much is the etc?

  • Do JB suddenly not sell Google phones any more? Errors on the site. The $800 off offer is pretty tempting, even with the overpriced plan.

    • Wow you're right. A quick search doesn't show up on Harvey Norman or The Good Guys either. Officeworks has the Pixel but it's listed as clearance and unavailable online. Keen to know what's going here.

  • Is this a good deal for android phone!? I am iPhone user for many years, want to have a try, is it worthwhile? Need recommendations. Thx guys
