New Office Chair (Budget $800)

Hi

Looking at a chair as my current one the foam has flattened out and its very uncomfortable now.

  • Sitting 8+ hours
  • Lower back issues
  • Weigh 98~100kg

Looking for something that has a thick padded base, mesh back is nice and head rest is a bonus but not a must.

Not looking to spend over $800 if possible and wanting to buy new.

Thanks

If you want to go the cheapest option, why not simply put a cushion/foam booster on your current chair?

Otherwise, Ikea's JÄRVFJÄLLET chair has been well received.

    • Sound like me, I have 2x the Markus which is similar to above: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-glose-black…

They have both lasted 7+ years now aside from some slight wearing on the headrest.

Out of all the office chairs, I have sat in these by far are the most comfortable I have used, I have never tried out the more expensive chairs but don't see the point when this has worked really well for me

  • Chairs are one of those things that is different for everyone so you should definitely try before you buy.

Steelcase make some good chairs. I got a used leap v1 and that's been great.
Since you're spending so much time sitting, you don't want to cheap out.

The same thing gets asked all the time. Stop buying both Officeworks and Ikea - the two main offenders for the foam flattening. Instead, buy from a proper office chair or ergonomic workspace supplier, and look at their Heavy Duty chair range.

Based on your budget - you probably want the Ranger Pro. Serati Pro is highly recommended by me (its very good for the price) but will run up to about $1050 fully kitted with headrest and armrests.

          I agree. Aeron is amazing

          • @Muzeeb: Until you've tried the Embody.

            • @mini2: Ok. Ordered 1 to compare. Cheers for the suggestion.

  • HAG Capisco, if you're able to increase your budget. Something different but definitely helps with back pain issues as it promotes active sitting.

  • Secretlab should have something to suit you

  • I know you prefer new, but with your budget you can get a secondhand aeron or steel case which will be better than any competitors.
Office chairs are often available at absurd markdowns second hand.
My steelcase was in great condition for $160, and I’ve seen Hern Miller Mirra’s under $250.

These chairs are made to last many years, so if they are in good nick when you buy them, you can expect plenty of life.

    • Any recommendations for the best place to buy these second hand?

Mostly not online, though I did get mine on gumtree.
Try secondhand office furniture search and call around to see who has stock of what you want.
There seem to be a few in each city who specialise in buying used stock when businesses renovate, so will sometimes have 300 of the same model, and sometimes none.

  • If anyone is still looking, HM Sayl/Steelcase Series 1 are both under $800 if you look around.
