Most eBay Sellers Have Stock Located in NSW?

I have noticed many eBay sellers have items or stock located in NSW. One of the seller has his stock in NSW but when I opened his eBay profile it said he is based in China however, listing thumbnails mention "AU seller" "Local Oz seller" etc.

Some people lie on the internet, believe it or not!

How do we know you're not lying?

        Precisely! Checkmate.

        • Wait… thought this was the Matrix…

After you purchase the item, you can see if there is australian stamp on it. (non tracking)
    Or from tracking status.

Darwin and Cronulla are other stock places the Chinese based accounts use.

There are forum posts here and whirlpool where people have complained to eBay but at the end of the day they don't care. eBay just want the commish.

  • China based sellers are governed by eBay China who are far more lax at enforcing eBay rules, essentially they don't!

They have warehouses in places like NSW, drop ship stock from China to there, and then post purchases from the warehouse making it look like the goods are being sold by Australian sellers.

because it is fake not really local stock but the item will ship from china to that place in bulk with other millions items then get distributed from the nsw spot

  • It's drop shipping but faster than getting an order from 'China' as chimot said, yours will either already be there or stock will ship faster with a heap of other items to DC then to you.

  • All the Australian ones will have Australian flags in it… Wait, or the opposite? :)

  • A few have stock in NSW or Melbourne, but most drop ship and try to hide that they are from China. One HUGGGEEE give away that they are Australian is if they post via express Auspost as they need to be in OZ to do this. They can still use OZ post drop shipping, but they will NOT offer express post.

Be aware that even with an OZ flay in them they may be based in China and have some stock in an OZ warehouse.

  • They use Sydney as as their address of choice as it is central to much of Australia's population, "perception" of quickest delivery for most customers. Personally I find the easiest way to tell if they are Australian based is by checking their feedback before purchasing, looking closely at their negative and neutral comments.

  • Sellers may list as stock in Australia but the stock could be elsewhere. The issue is that if they list the stock outside of Australia then the buyer gets hit with GST so their pricing is not as competitive. Eg if seller A is in China and they list the goods at $10 the buyer will pay $11 because eBay dumps GST on the price at checkout. If they say the goods are in Australia even though they are not then the buyer pays $10. I guess they select Sydney or NSW because that’s the place that most foreigners know. For Aussie sellers unfortunately eBay even though they say you can’t do this it does not appear to be strictly policed.

For those genuine sellers who are based in oz, from a shipping/logistics, and cost perspective the cost of shipment from a warehouse is often cheaper to have a location midpoint of most major states because shipping times are less and cost is often less because you don’t know where the buyers are coming from. For example, if the warehouse was based in Melbourne and most of your sales ended up in Brisbane then it would be more expensive to ship from Melbourne to Brisbane than from Sydney to Brisbane. Population size is also largest in NSW so theoretically most of your sales (depending on the goodS) will be from NSW.
