  • Latitude at that price would be a good deal. Great business machines, although I would not pay $2000+ for them.

    • cool, online starts from $1400. So ATM half price :)

  • What do you need this computer for?
I see some components so unbalanced with others: memory ram got 4 sticks so all slots are full also you may not upgrade; 250GB hard disk it's just too small; Nvidia 4200M GPU, I see nothing good here also it seems sharing the memory with the system (and they don't tell you); battery, they should tell the capacity.

Do you know Win7 needs at least 2GB memory just to "startup" then 512MB go to the GPU, around 500MB go to Firefox, add so many services working in background plus you'll need to use some kind of software or watch a movie, or playing music etc. etc. etc. can you see how much memory is left?

    • NVIDIA(R)NVS(TM)4200M (GDDR3 512MB) Switchable Graphics

      You must be blind.

      • What do you mean?

        • It has discrete graphics.

4x1GB is silly but they probably wanted to get rid of their 1GB sticks. Nothing that can't be cheaply fixed.

250GB is slightly smaller than standard but it is a 7200RPM drive.

This is a good price for a business class notebook with much sturdier construction than consumer equivalents.

      • According to the NoteBookCheck - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark…

Between the HD 3000 vs NVS 4200M, there is approximately 50% increase in performance.
As AntMan mentioned the GPU doesnt have to take all 512MB right? And since it is switchable then, close other programs when gaming or intense stuff. Also if your gaming and watching a movie simultaneously then might aswell look at higher end options.

About the battery capacity i will check with Dell Support tomorrow.

        Cheers

        EDIT:
Where does it say that RAM is a 4x 1GB?

        • Where does it say that RAM is a 4x 1GB?

It doesn't. I assumed that above poster was correct…

        • I'm not going to buy this computer for sure because I just don't need one, but I think that my opinion as well that from others could help you to make the choice.

However, I didn't know that some people do gaming (although not sure why someone is claiming this computer could) and simultaneously they watch a movie?? :))

  • +1

Seriously. People don't buy Latitude E6xxx for their performance. In fact in my experience the Latitude are crap in the performance area, as Dell is making them as backward compatible and stable as possible at the expense of performance. NVIDIA Quadro NVS for example, rather than more gaming-focused GPU.

People buy Latitude because they are solid built, have nice keyboard, docking station compatible, easily take apart to be serviced by your IT department, etc. Not necessarily because of the Gigabytes and Gigahertz of the components inside.

    • ohhh!

Its more for personal use, so the speed does matter for me with my new machine. I guess its time to move on.

Cheers and thanks, for everyone's opinions.

      • latitudes are fine… they're used by all the big companies

however they can be a bit spotty and i found the idiots they send around to fix them are useless

they are not faster or slowest than a comparable machine

they do have features that are largely useless to the home user (mainly vpro type stuff)

      • @Tony,

What did you mean by Spotty? Sounds like an odd term to describe a machine…

First time hearing about it! vPro - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_vPro

        Thx, learnt something new.
