Multifunction Inkjet Recommendation?

Hi all,

So Im after a new multifunction inkjet. Requirements are:

-Reasonably priced inks that last a while (my current HP Photosmart C5380 goes through ink like crazy!)
-Wifi and Bluetooth Printing
-Quality printing 1st, speed 2nd
-Automatic Duplex printing
-Will be used primarily for b&w text but occasional photos

Not necessary but nice additions:
-Android printing support via app
-CD/DVD print tray

Im currently looking at the Canon MG6150 because I've used it at work, but it is a little slow – http://www.canon.com.au/For-You/Printers/PIXMA-InkJet-Printe… & review – http://www.cnet.com.au/canon-pixma-mg6150-339305365.htm

Any recommendations for anything similar? I will probably go for the cheapest available that has a decent combination of quality/efficiency/ongoing costs (inks).

Thanks in advance!

  • If you're mad keen on inkjet then do yourself a favour & buy a CIS system long before you start shelling out for replacement ink carts.

Personally, I'd pony up the bit extra for a laser, but that's personal preference! ;)

    • I was a bit hesitant for the CIS, looks fiddly for some printers.

Any suggestion for a good Laser that suits my needs then?

      • I'm rather partial to the Brother models myself, mainly because they're reliable and generic drum/toner replacements can be had on the cheap. There's been some good specials on the bigger units like the MFC-9840CDW from the likes of Dick Smith, Harris Technology or Orificeworks at times!

If you're going to be doing mainly B&W printing then the more I think about it a cheap Brother mono laser might be all you need for that, and they're on OzB nearly every week for under forty bucks, or a bit more for a network/duplexing model…just keep your existing HP for the few photos you do print.

  • There is a Samsung CLP-325W wifi colour laser, sorry no duplexer or bluetooth, for $135 at estore.com.au. Subscribe to their newsletter first to get $10 voucher takes it to $125, add other stuff eg. B&W toner refill, to take the total over $200 for free delivery. Samsung toners seems to be reasonbly priced and have often seem them discounted at officeworks.
On the inkjet front, some of the latest inkjet printers which allow remote printing via the internet (eg. HP's AirPrint technology), are interesting.
My FujiXerox colour laser C1110B going strong & prints good photos.
