  • 50% off $0 is $0, right? Send me thru a dozen of them, please… ;p

For anyone wondering, after discount the light comes to $42.50.

OP - Any plans for discounts on your 18" LED rings?

Who buys this crap? These things are the new Bluetooth FM transmitters.

    • All the TikTokers I guess.

    • We've all got to stick our Eneloops somewhere…

    • +5

"I don't want it or understand it, therefore it's crap." Good prototypical OzBargain attitude, there.

      • Better not try and sell him on the merits of your SolidTeknics pan!

        • +1

Nope, that would be too complex, I'm sure :-D

          • +1

@mickeyjuiceman: How are they going for you?

Today is the last day of their current kickstarter and they've got some offers on Bombee pans and woks.

            https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/solidteknics/solidtekni…

            • @UncleRico: Yep, can't recommend highly enough. They are expensive, but they are "buy once" gear, so for me they're worth it. (We've got eight of them, I think.)

We've got the 28cm long-handled wok from the kickstarter, and it's excellent, but we only need one of them :-D

              • @mickeyjuiceman: Thanks for the info. The 28cm bombee wok is the one I was looking at, albeit the shipping date of Nov is putting me off. Well that, and not being convinced I'd ever use it enough.

I presume you have either or both of the 26cm / 30cm skillets? If so, which do you get the most use out of? I'm champing at the bit for them to put their Quenched range up on the site and would happily pay $200 for something I'd use every other day, whereas I'd only use a bombee every other week, I suspect.

OP - apologies for the sidetrack. If it's any consolation, I ordered the LED ring…

                • +1

@UncleRico: 26cm - I have three of them :-D Bought two of the bare ones from the kickstarter… They have the flat bottom. I dislike (intensely!) the "sloping down to the edges" bottom of the big pan.

                  • +1

@mickeyjuiceman: I didn't realise that the base profile of the 30cm skillet differed from the 26cm - thanks for the heads up. Sounds like the Quenched 26cm might be my test unit. Reviews suggest that the shot peened Satin skillets are big improvements on originals, and that the Quenched range are better again (based on US-ion anyway).

My wrists will thank me for retiring my 10.5" and 12" Lodge cast iron pans…

    • The code needs to be applied at checkout and it will show at $42.49

    • Sure about that?

Cubed camels confirms that normal price is $80-$85.

Only twice before has it been less than $60. $42.50 is second cheapest ever and significantly less than "normal price".

      • +3

Yep my bad, I thought the $84.99 was already 50% off.

Please discipline me with the negs x_x

        • +1

Don't sweat it. I, too, made an error once.

Or at least I thought I did. But it turns out I was mistaken…

  • I purchased the same one in April 2021 for $46.99 from Amazon but without the Bluetooth Receiver remote which was the standard price back then (no discount showing). The $80+ original price tag doesn't really realistic.

    • How have you found it?

$4.50 cheaper plus an additional remote makes this seem like a decent deal. I paid $40 for one from AliExpress a couple months ago, but it didn't have a remote or the changable filters, plus it was also quite flimsy. It did however have an Ipad-holder in addition to a small phone holder for mouting.

  • +1

It's great, would recommend it as it is solid without any issues. Knocked it over several times and it still works fine. I mainly use it as a compact light source for product photos so a remote would not have been useful.

  • Similar alternatives on eBay starting from $9 onwards. Yes some are different from others, but it’s basically the ring light plus extras. Feels like whatever price above $10 is purely for the extras 🤷‍♂️

    • Link to similar alternatives, please?

        • +1

They're not "similar," they're quite different.

          • @mickeyjuiceman: so they're not a ring light?

            • +2

              @randomdude14: Not a comparable one.

*Tripod and max height is minimum of 50% greater
*Diameter of LED ring and internal real estate for camera/device is 40% greater
*LED count and lumens are 80% greater
*Remote, tripod head/hotshoe and filters included
*Build quality is unknown, but Amazon reviews cite many references to higher quality gear form Neewer compared to cheap generics

Point taken that there are cheaper options, but suggesting that any cost above $10 is only for "extras" rather than indicative of a better, bigger, higher quality, more feature-rich offering appear wide of the mark.

              • +1

@UncleRico: Thanks, you’ve made some good points there. However for most (or some?) users intent is to have a ring light and the ones I’ve found has decent lx and does the job well. Your points refer to the improvements one can expect with this one, but need to compare with something like I’ve listed, which isn’t unfortunately on Amazon (or not much I could find)

            • +1

@randomdude14: It's like saying a Hyundai and an Audi are "similar" because they're both cars.

I know this is OzBargain gospel, but it's completely incorrect.

              • @mickeyjuiceman: its a good analogy, but useless in this scenario. Cars are well known commodities and most people know how to differentiate. As mentioned above, for most people who are new to this, they need a baseline to compare with. Sure maybe in 50 years they will be well known as Audi - but until then, it's useful to know there are 'similar' options lot cheaper - and then they can workout what is 'different'

                • @randomdude14: It would indeed be useful if they were ACTUALLY similar, ut they're not, and anyone who thinks they are has been misled, either deliberately or unwittingly.

                  • @mickeyjuiceman: they are similar - which means it is not the SAME. similar means there are differences, and you are debating how different they are. I am saying how similar they are.

The price history shows that the price has been doubled from 42.99$ to 84.99 and then offered a discount.

    • +1

      https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B078993P7Y

      Not quite.

Since launch in January 2019, the item has had an average price of $91.34. Like most/all items on Amazon, there have been plenty of sales and fluctuations, but only twice during that time has it ever gone on sale for less than $60. Harsh neg.

Will let you know how it performs once my order is received…

    • +1

You really have no idea how to read a graph, do you? They're pretty simple.

This makes about as much sense as the claim that these are "similar" to a super-cheap Aliexpress piece of crap.

This whole page is OzBragain cluelessness on perfect display.

    • +1

It was $44.99 (not $42.99) back in APRIL hardly doubled for this promo. The lowest before that was Christmas eve 2019! Precovid! And that was $41.09 again not $42.99. Oh and I have one of these Neewer ones here in my studio. Used it today even. I rarely use it on full power - too bright. Love the dimmer dial.
