Zendure SuperTank 100W 27000mAh Power Bank $99 + Shipping ($89 Delivered with First) @ Kogan

230

Been doing a fair of research for a powerbank for my new MacBook Air, and after narrowing it down between the Kogan 26800 100W and ZMI No.20, I noticed that this Zendure Supertank not only ticked all the boxes for what I was after, but seems to be insanely cheap compared to previous deals for it posted here and found on other sites.

The major benefit for me over the Kogan model is that it has 2x USB-C ports that allow both my partner and I to simultaneously charge our MacBooks (at 60W when two devices are plugged in), or when just I am using it, use pass-through charging to keep it plugged into the wall while charging my MacBook, using it as a UPS while the powerbank charges up. My research shows that by essentially keeping it plugged in at all times, I should be able to keep my MacBook battery cycles insanely low, which is hugely appealing. It's also 500G compared to 650G for the Kogan one, and quite a bit cheaper than the ZMI.

As always, seems pretty easy to get another Kogan First trial even if you've done so in the past :~)

Cheers!

  • Hey mate, looking on the site and cant see the passthrough information.

      https://zendure.com/products/supertank

"Q8. Can I charge my device while recharging the SuperTank(Pass-Through Charging)?

A8. Yes, with pass-through charging, SuperTank will recharge while it is charging other devices, so it charges both."

      • thank you - hopefully kogan dont decline my return if needed. haha

        • If it's only pass-through you're worried about, you should be good!! In the past, though, I've honestly had a pretty good time with Kogan Support for returns. I've seen the horror stories and people swearing off ever using them again though, haha

          • @Doy: I'm one of the 'never using them again" stories 😂

          • @Doy: thank you - passthrough is a must for me

  • Cheers, grabbed one

  • The Zendure Super Port 4 100W Dual USB-C Desktop Charger (246337) seems like a good deal as well. Bought the silver color charger and power bank. Thanks,

The only problem is when can we start to travel overseas……

    • Nice one - thanks for that! Picked that one up for myself too :~)

    • What are the differences between these two ?

The SuperPort is a desktop charger that you plug into the wall. But it charges the SuperTank at a full 100W, so it'll only take 1-2 hours to get it from 0-100, which is super fast for 27000mAh.

The setup for me will be:

        HOME:
        - SuperPort plugged into wall, charging the SuperTank at 100W
        - SuperTank powering my MacBook Air at 60W
        - 3x USB-A and 1x 18W USB-C port for charging other things

Since the input will be more than any amount of draw I'm taking out of the SuperTank, the SuperTank will basically always be charging or fully charged ready to grab & go whenever I want

        PORTABLE:
        - SuperTank charging my MacBook Air at 100W, or both mine & my partner's at 60W each
        - 2x USB-A for charging other things

    Hey All,

I actually have a few of these. I ordered them directly from the site when they had a special and they made an error and sent me an extra one. The unit itself is really good and this is about as good as you can get for a powerbank. The unit itself charges extremely fast. Its possible to charge this thing in an hour if you have a 100W charger.
However, the fail rate on these things has not been good. I originally ordered 3 (1 for me, one for my partner and 1 as a gift) 2/3 of the original batch have failed. To be fair to Zendure, the did replace them at their own expense but even then 1/2 of the replacement ones failed. YMMV.

Thanks for letting us know. Definitely grateful it has a 2 year warranty. I'd really hope any bugbears would present themselves by then.

      • Yeah FYI the issue was that the screen would display a "188" error code and then it became a paper weight.

That being said, I use the ones I have daily and highly recommend them. I ended up paying about $100 AUD delivered for these about 18 months ago and had originally bought it because it was perfect for travel. LOL at the irony.

  • Regarding “My research shows that by essentially keeping it plugged in at all times, I should be able to keep my MacBook battery cycles insanely low,”

I don’t know Macs but unless it allows you to maintain your battery at say 60% keeping your battery fully charged with the power bank won’t help longevity much.

Reducing cycles is good but keeping it fully charged is bad.

    • Huge amounts of conflicting info on this, but with modern battery tech, it seemed to be recommended that giving it a full cycle approx once a month would be totally adequate for its health. You'd be right that permanently keeping it at 100% is not good. Of course, when it's at 100%, it's completely bypassed and just runs straight off the power adapter (in this case, a portable charger)

the issue here is that the battery will still lose charge over time or you are trickle charging continuously which are both bad scenarios

i am not sure if MacOS has the option but on some windows laptops you can set the maximum charge, i have mine set to 70% for example as i never use it away from desk

        • Looks promising that it’ll just learn I’ve got it plugged in constantly and manage accordingly

          https://www.macworld.com/article/235001/macos-big-surs-batte…

          • @Doy: that's actually really cool and makes sense as the iphone also does the same "learning", i would imagine that usage patterns on a laptop would probably be more consistent if it's trying to minimise how often it sits at 100% so its a great feature

    • Newer MacOS's actually have a built in mechanism whereby it doesn't charge beyond a certain percentage (78% for mine) based on usage (i have mine always plugged in, rarely unplug). It automatically does this to reduce battery wear.

  • Don't forget to stack with 8% GC's, bringing the price down further!
