Today I received a whopping Synergy bill- over $800 (normal $150-250 depending on time of year, power usage habits etc.)
Initially it appeared to be a scam- with a strange billing period (1 day at the top section), and broken down into 2 different plans (Smart home plan, which I'm on, and the L1 business tariff, which I'm not on). The breakdown over the two separate plans dated back to late November. I've had two billing periods in the meantime, which I haven't paid due to the $600 offset/credit having covered them.
Synergy online usage indicates that from my last bill, I should have expected a charge of around $240.
I phoned Synergy, and after around 30 minutes on hold they were able to confirm something was "not right" and that they'd put a pause on the bill and rebill/check the charges.
My only guess is that there's somehow been a mistake made with my billing with the transition to the AMI meters/billing which were rolled out around April.
Anyway, it looks like it shouldn't be a huge issue for me, but as always, just a timely reminder that vetting all bills, even those from State backed bodies isn't a bad idea. Especially if you're on direct debit- easy to miss things like this.
Maybe they’re trying to recoup some costs after everyone got their $600 credit?
