After some quick googling I couldnt find any online retailers in Australia to buy a chainsaw but found a couple of American sites that offer cheap, quality chainsaws. Any suggestions for any quality chainsaws like stihl etc?

Seriously, this is something you DON'T want to be buying completely sight-unseen. You need to be sure it is comfortable for you to hold, and well-balanced, etc.
Leave your wallet at home if you don't trust yourself not to get pressured into a purchase, but go to the shops (not just one) and have a feel of how they sit in your hand. And read any online reviews you can find on a particular product before you buy.
That's not to say that you have to buy from a bricks and mortar store if you choose to do otherwise, but you can bet you're going to get significantly better follow-up service when you need it. Local stores will often give you a free service after running in, and will often throw in a file and sharpening guide if asked. Then you need to consider transport costs if you've bought online and need warrantee service.
