      3070 looks to be by customisation only. I tried to customise as per the spec in your link but no expected delivery date is given after I added it to my cart (said to call for availability). Education price + using the code to get an additional 10% discount takes the price down to $2684.34.

      I only managed find Legion 7 customisable (with very similar spec with this) with 3070. Chat price was around $2700.
      Didn't think ~30% price increase over this was worth it as I think the performance gain seem to be ~20%.

      Hoping Asus / Gigabyte etc release comparable machines(or Eth mining algorithm to get harder?) to bring down the demand/price..

      In relation to $2700 being too much, are you comparing to other products being cheaper or just not prepared to spend that much on a 3070?

      I'm looking at multiple other laptops around this spec (Asus g15 strix/scar, msi gp66 Leopard, aorus 15p, alienware r4). At the cheapest, is around $2500 - $2900. I would have thought the Lenovo at least has a good rep for after sales support unlike the other models above.

    Just me nitpicking here, while all the legions this year are full powered cards, which is very good compared to many other brands, saying they are overclocked is quite a bit of overstatement. Also, refer to the jarrod tech video, with the legion 5s you need to upgrade the ram to get maximum performance or you lose about 10% which imho pretty much cancels out a big chunk of the performance boost from the extra wattage of the gpu.

      Not much of a gamer myself, it's been forever since I bought a discrete GPU, so I am not familiar with the norm for GPU, but isn't this card designed for 80-115W with a base clock of 900Mhz? Is boost clock not considered as over clock? More than happy to edit the post if I am mistaken.

        Not really, while you are correct in saying that the 130w is 15w more than the 115w max designed capacity of the 3060, and it have a boost clock vs a base clock. All current gen 30 series laptops have these:

        The extra wattage is called dynamic boost 2.0, a feature, common to all 30 series cards, which allows gpus to draw an extra 15w when the system sees that the CPU do not need the extra wattage. As for boost/base clock, basically all laptop gpus, or gpus in general have a base clock vs boost clock, just like the cpu, where they have a base frequency vs turbo frequency.

            @deliriouss: I dont recall what the previous legion 5 deal was like so I cant comment on how good of a deal this is. It's definitely not a bad deal, given the current market.

            I also cant comment on similiarly priced alternatives since I dont know any, but if you want to save some dollaroos, there are a few 3060 laptop that goes for 1799 aud:

            Acer Nitro 5, MSI GF65, Gigabyte G5 KC

            These all use old chasis to save costs and all uses around 105w gpu, the acer uses 5600h whilst the latter two uses 10500h, both are 6c/12t, productivity wise the 5600h def wins but 10500h does better in games. And while all three uses 144hz panels, the MSI only have a 45% ntsc screen so I would say pick between the nitro 5 or the g5 kc.

      It’s not that simple, though it seems so if you skim over Jarrod’s video and other info. The ram issue only affects CPU-bound fps. So essentially if the game you’re playing is graphically intensive enough to sit around 60-70fps or lower anyway, you won’t get the ram-induced 10% penalty.

      Also worth noting, i have the Legion 5 Pro from the previous deal with 3070 and 32gb stock ram, and it’s about 7% faster than stock 16gb. So almost no penalty.

      Tldr; if you get the 16gb lenovo stock ram, you MAY want to upgrade to a fast kit (preferably 32gb) to boost fps, depending on your usage. That said, 10% isn’t that noticeable, and the screen is amazing and very noticeable!

        You are right, but this basically means if you are playing esports titles you suffer, where as in triple A titles you will be fine. This is also the case with the TUF dash in china, where the stock 16gb version takes fps hits but it wont matter if you upgrade the ram.

        but this also leads to another question-why does lenovo uses inferior ram in overseas export models? One of the main selling points of the legion 5 equv. in china was that unlike the TUF dash equv. it dont need upgraded ram for full performance, but lenovo seemed to have swapped these out for cheaper ram in overseas models, and we have to pay more…

        They really made great laptops this year, especially with the whole lineup getting a mux switch, but it just leaves a bit of a sour taste for me at least.

      regrading the ram issue mentioned in the video,
      i received my legion 5 pro rtx3070/1tb/32gb config end of may, seems like lenovo have change the ram sticks, the issue i believe had to RFC timings, the timing on my one match the timings of others who swapped out their ram

    Got the 3070 version of this laptop and have been pretty happy with it. Ordered on the 30th of May with an estimated delivery of September and it was delivered on 7th of June. Also remember to try Cashrewards, i'm not sure my order was eligible but it has tracked for now.

      No it's not. It's literally centre of the main set of keys. If you don't want numbpad the that's a different story…

      For people who work with numbers or run own small business numbpads are absolute necessity for productivity.

    Ordered this a few days ago from main Lenovo site (non edu). After speaking with live chat got price down to $2094.75 with very little effort.

    Also used cashrewards for ~7% cashback ( can't remember exact amount)

    Awesome deal. I ended up getting the non-Pro version last night (also on sale, $1,970), which has an inferior screen but I wanted something sub-$2k. Still regret missing the $2.5k 3070 deal from April… just have to consol myself by saying I don't need those stronger specs or spend that much on a laptop.

    This is a great laptop but it doesn't feature thunderbolt. Perhaps for many users it shouldn't matter but i feel it's the equivalent of putting a "maximum" life span on this laptop of say 3-4 years as opposed to one with lightning bolt where you could "upgrade" it in the future as your needs evolved. Also depends on if it's at a desk majority of the time or not of course.

      eGPUs have not exactly turned out the way we were "promised".

      This does have USB-C with PD and DP which fulfills the need that most people use TB3 for; single cable docking.

      However Thunderbolt will be the bottleneck if you are trying to connect a high end eGPU, because it is not able to provide the bandwidth it needs. Hence you have Asus, with their AMD based Flow laptop, and a proprietary OCulink connection, to give their external 3080 enough bandwidth to game at high frame rates.

      Thunderbolt is good if you need it for a specific purpose or two, but in general, it hasn't proven to be the "must-have" accessory that Intel markets it as. I haven't found a reason to regret not having it on any computer over the last 5 years, in fact, I've never used it even in ones that have it.

        Exactly. I’ve had thunderbolt on both win and mac laptops for years and never once used it. Every time i look at any thunderbolt accessory (especially external ssd, docks), they are hilariously overpriced. You’re better off buying a good laptop at a great price, then rinse and repeat and sell your current laptop in 2-3 years rather than buy a glitchy and cumbersome eGPU.

      am aware that it is due to having an AMD processor, hence preference for intel. AMD are supposed to be integrating thunderbolt from Intel's new chips in future laptops

      I think from my initial post it would be obvious that I predominantly use my machines at a desk, the PoV doesn't apply to anyone that prefers to game/browse in bed or untethered in general.

      The use case for eGPU only is probably the most common use but for transferring large files for video editing over 10+gigabit links can be exceptionally valuable and having full bandwith available on all USB ports from hub as well.

      Boils down to desktop replacement vs full mobile. A laptop with thunderbolt may not necessarily perform either exceptionally but I personally feel it's a good balance between portability and productivity. If you don't need to game away from the desk, IMHO the thunderbolt route makes more sense as when you are mobile you will have excellent battery life and when plugged in you can play games as required, albeit with performance hit as mentioned.

      Having the one device for all purposes is super convenient.

    I didn't end up buying as I wanted it cheaper but $2065 was the best price I got after a few chat consultants.
    It really depends on the chat consultant and manager working at the time.
    It was through the education portal however they seem to use all the same sales people in the standard store and CEPP aswell.

This can be further reduced to $1755 during their 10% off sale (excluding shipping). This ASUS TUF Gaming A15 has the same 5800H CPU, RTX 3060 GPU, 16GB Memory and 512GB SSD configuration as the Legion 5 Pro.

    Anyone tried showing a Lenovo chat rep the above link to obtain a better price on the Legion 5 Pro? I tried with one rep and they wouldn't budge below $2109. The different screen was the issue (1080p 144Hz vs 1600p 165Hz). Please share if you're successful in reducing the price even further :D.

      Best negotiated deal reported so far is $2094.75. Honestly there is a big difference in the screen quality, it is 1080p 144Hz 250nits 62.5%sRGB source vs 1600p 165Hz 500nits 100% sRGB, the TGP is 95W vs 130W, but you can point out to the rep that the TUF A15 has a bigger battery (90Wh vs 80Wh) see if that helps.

        Good points, I wasn't expecting a Legion 5 Pro for the same price. But you'd think $1999 or below wouldn't be out of the question considering the L5P config with a 3070 plus double the memory and SSD storage was only $2439 via the EDU store back in April.

          Don't think you can bargain it down to under 2k while they have stock, you may be able to get it just below 2k for the next round of pre-order I reckon. That 3070 deal is pretty unbeatable, I think they don't even have stock to sell at RRP at the moment.

          My bet is that deal won’t reappear until they are clearing out stock of this in a year, for next year’s models. They have already jacked up their pricing worldwide in countries where they simply price lower and don’t allow you to haggle via chat (EU, US, UK), and they STILL can’t stop the flood of orders and produce these machines fast enough. Its only gotten worse since all the excellent reviews have come out, confirming how good it is. The screen is so amazing. The brightness, refresh rate, colour and contrast are easily as good or better than my macbook pro. And the 16:10 screen ratio is so much better than 16:9

      Not an expert on GPU performance so I will leave that to others to comment but would be helpful to let people know what kind of games you play in order for them to gauge if this is sufficient for your needs.
      That 3070 version was definitely a better deal but I don't think it will come back any time soon (read eggboi's comment above).
      Do bear in mind this is a 2.45kg laptop, so factor that in if you plan on taking it to uni.

      I don't think the Legion 7 3070 is going to come down to $24xx anytime soon. Maybe towards end of year, but right now demand is outstripping supply. You might be able to get it to $2700 via chat, I was quoted $2819 with 2 years extra premium warranty back in early May.

      3060 timespy is around 8900
      3070 timespy is around 10500 to 11500 depending on overclock/mux switch
      3080 timespy is around 12000 to 13000 depending on overclock/mux

      You can decide if the performance difference is worth the money. The 3060 model has similar timespy score to my 2019 Asus S17/GX701 with 9700k and 2080 Max-Q, but runs much cooler.

      In Legion non slim lineup they all have max TDP GPUs this year.

      Currently my wife has the Asus and I have L7 with 3080. The fan never gets as loud as my Asus and temps are always in the 70s though right now given how cold this winter is and I don't use heating it sits more around 60s.
